No, it shouldn't. Of course, if you overpay for the R154 swap, it won't matter. The nice thing with the R154 swap is you don't have to change out your rear diff because the gearing matches. Also, R154's are hella cheaper (and easier to attain) than getrag transmissions.
it's not so much rpm that kills gas mileage as it is ignition timing. like i told u earlier, i got 25mpg highway mileage on my original na-t setup and my cruising rpms were 2800-3100rpm. If you're not pushing the throttle pedal down a lot at those rpms, you'll be fine. If you go wide open throttle at the same rpms, you will burn a lot more fuel. The beauty of AEM EMS, is you can customize all of this, so my point is your gas mileage will be perfectly fine with R154 and your sc300 rear-end. With the money saved, you can put a nice limited slip differential in your SC300 rear pumpkin too!
