I called Carson Toyota, they want 4400 for the 6 speed, and 2,299 for a GTE Shortblock... Should I just look for a JDM GTE Swap ?

yes

you may even be able to find a used USDM one...

no reason in the world to go buy a brand new motor / trans...

$4400 is not bad for a new trans tho

Can anyone give me a good idea where to look? The place I got the first 2JZGTE doesn't have any, and most of the other various importer sites didn't either. Whats a good company to order a setup from?

if you find two good deals; one being vvti and the other being non-vvti, get the VVTI, it performs better.

I say non VVTI,
you have very little resources available to you and the VVTi has very little support. If you find someone who can wire it up properly then God bless you.
But I say non simply because you'll have more tech support when problem arise.
And yes they will arise.

Oh and don't get a short block from Toyota, they are made in Mexico and are not the quality of part you find in the jdm market.
The non VVti block holds more power than the VVTi.

I agree... unless leaving it 100% stock, I say non-vvti as well

I'm honestly thinking about just doing a 6 Speed conversion and still going NA-T.

If you do your shopping wisely, it's hard to beat the bang/buck of a proper Na-T setup with a R154 transmission imho .

But will the cost for a full R514 swap end up being close a 6 Speed swap?
