Default 3 problemos

Hi, We have a 92 SC400 - absolutely kick butt car. I'll get pics asap.. It's an auto and we just plunked down $800 because the PS pump leaked all over the alternator. Oh well, no car payment so that stuff pays for itself in , what, 3 months ??

1. Anyway, my trunk pistons have failed. I remember purchasing a model from Pep Boys that I got from here for our GS300 and it worked like a champ - any others that work on the SC ?

2. I replaced the front rotors/pads - no more shimmy - it's great. However, I've bled all 4 wheels and slowly, very slowly, the braking performance over a few months goes back to "sucking" i.e. longer and slightly longer brake pedal travel ... I saw a nipple on the ABS box - should I bleed that, too ? My level isn't going down and it's not dripping so I doubt if I have a leak..

3. Just today, the ol Antenna failed retracting - it's stuck in the up position. At least this will keep my wife from going to the auto car wash just about every week, but has anyone had any experience replacing some parts of this using aftermarket parts ? I remember replacing parts of mine on my 87 Supra and what a PITA that is !!

Thanks so much for reading this.. It's funny how things work out - we got this for a "temporary" car for my wife until she gets a newer car and it turns out she loves it so much she'll never let it go. It has 150K miles and we picked it up for $6K and had a clean carfax.

What's also ironic are the same type of problems in my lexus' - both have failed trunk pistons and leaky gaskets for the trunk. All 3 of my last Toy/Lex cars had issues with the Antennas not retracting - but hey, I'll forever be a toy/lex biggot, most recently selling my F-150 and getting a 95 Tacoma 3.4 4X4 - can't wait for my goodie bag to come from champion toyota !!

thanks again for the help !
John

www.intellexual.net is a good place to start. Just search for the other issues as I believe there is a DIY for each of them.

Trunk pistons can be purchased at pep boys, ebay, and vendors right here on CL

Don't have an answer for the brake issue

Is the motor still working on the antennae? If it is then just the cable has snapped (mine as well), simplest fix is to get a new mast from ebay.

Thanks for all the replies ! and the intelexual kicks a$$.. Lots of great info.. Nice to know there are different ways to get the trunk pistons... I was looking at rockauto and it looks like they have more options

ACDELCO Part # 510129 More Info {#12362675}
SUPPORT,R/CMPT LID STRUT SILVER LIFT SUPPORT; SPOILER TRUNK
SUPPORT,R/CMPT LID STRUT SILVER LIFT SUPPORT; W/ SPOILER

Mine does have the spoiler so it looks like I'll get the ACDELCO part

The motor is still working just fine so I'll look on EBAY for that mast..

Hey Jewcano, where do you live ? In seattle, people usually mark up used cars most of the time by about 25% so yes we got a good deal...

Northern Florida, but then again I purchased the car down here when gas prices first started to go up, and it was very difficult to find an SC around the area.
