Default Dangerous Brake Performance

The brakes simply do not work on my 99 LS. I'm better off try to stop this boat with my feet. I've bled the system at all calipers, no air or trouble codes. All the pads have at 50% life left and none of the rotors are warped. I believe the master cylinder and brake booster are fine and the calipers are not sticking. I have to press the pedal all the way to the floor to stop this car. I'm thinking about just replacing the front brake pads and rotors with Akebono Pro-Act pads and Centric C-tek rotors and see what happens.

Did you bleed your brakes properly? starting from the right rear? Brake lines dry rotted?

I assure yu that the pads are not the problem.
A working master with a working booster will never let your foot hit the floor.

Pump your pedal with the car off to use up any remaining vacuum.
Keep your foot firmly pressed on the brake and turn the car on.
If the pedal droops once the car is on the booster works.
Pump the pedal with the car on and it should stop at a higher position every time if the booster is working.

if you have to push the pedal to the floor then the master cylinder and booster and maybe even the ABS block are very obviously NOT working fine...

I may have not explained myself clearly. The booster holds vacuum when the car is off and the pedal goes down when I start the car. I see no signs of master cylinder leaks. The pedal just has more travel then I would like and the pads don't bite well. Last night I adjusted the pedal to be closer to the driver's seat, seemed too close to the carpet. I went too a empty school parking lot and slammed on the brakes, the abs works and the car stops just not fast enough.

Had this problem on my supra. No air in the system, pads and rotors were all new. No leak, but i had to press the pedal all the way to the floor to eventually slow down. It ended up being the master but not the booster. Replaced, bled system and worked perfectly again. Not saying this is your problem but symptoms were just like what happened in my supra last year.

at 87k miles i wouldn't suspect your MC to be bad but it could very well be.

^^Car may have 87K, but it is STILL 14 years old and most likely the original as well. I agree with looking to the Master Cylinder as the culprit.

Thanks, I think MC is my problem too.

Did you recently open up the system to do any work on it? Has the car ALWAYS been like this in the time you've owned it, or is it just a recent thing?

I just changed the fluid by bleeding the calipers, but there's no air in the system. It has been most noticeable in the recent months. Tomorrow I will look into MC diagnosis

I also agree with looking to the Master Cylinder as the culprit, if you are confident the bleeding was done correctly.
