My guess is it's just an antennae that comes up so you know where the opposite front corner is.

If that's the case, and you need something like that, you shouldn't be driving!

LOL. Thats a parking anntenae and it lets you know where the front of your car is so u dont hit another car or wall. They have that on most Japanes cars. I had it on my old integra and it work great for when i had to park in tight spots in the city. There are kits on the web that you can purches and install. Its really no biggie.

that antenna isn't retractable. it's more of an aftermarket add on as i've seen on some cars in asia. it's actually to help most people parallel park by showing them where the curb is so they don't climb up onto the curb or scratch their wheels.

Man if you really want back up assist go get a back up sensors from Ebay with a central control unit and that will do. I saw some that you can paint and stick to the car no drilling involved. Although I think it looks gay and adds weight to the already heavy car. Also if you need *** backing up you don't know how to drive and don't have a fell of the car!

I've seen it both on the front corner like the pic, and on the rear bumper. I think the one on the front is just a indication of how close you are, and the rear one beeps as you get closer.
