Ticking noise when cold.
Hello,
Upon starting up the car. After 10 sec or so I hear a small ticking noise that comes from the engine compartment. This last for 30 sec to a min or so. Is this normal? The engine is absolutely quiet when warm. The dealer just did a 30K service on this car.
Another thing is that after I take a high speed run on the freeway and stop my office parking lot, I hear the exhaust tingling noise eve before I stop the engine. It is not as loud though. Again is this normal? Thanks a lot!

My car also does that, figured it's just a sticky valve, one that has some carbon-goo on the stem, alowing it to hang-up a bit.
Might be doing a motor vac soon, and maybe that'll take care of it,I had been using a top end/fuel injector cleaner every 4 to 5,000mi as well, trying to soften up the crud in there.
The crud,in my case, comes from the previous owner using cheaper gas,and weak ignition(plugs/wires couldn't wait 'til 120K, just now did it at 90K).
Oh,the exhaust tingly-noise is just the parts down there contracting after the high heat,I know, these cars really do it loudly!

Mine is doing that all of sudden, does anyone know a cure for this? I know a lot of people live in the Eastcoast so, what's the fix for our problem? I don't remember hearing the noise last two years. However, I modified air filter and mufflers recently.

In some other cars I had that tapping sound was a hydraulic cam lifter that had not yet filled with oil. I'm not sure if the lifters are solid or hydraulic on my SC300. If it is lifter noise, it's not detrimental, just annoying. An oil flush and change may help.
