Hello everyone.

I have a 2009 GS450h model. (3rd Gen)
In the morning, I heard weird sound which from under the car at the parking area.
A few days ago, I was checked my car's overall conditions from the LEXUS dealer shops. they reported car status OK.
When I heard this noise, I was try to know reasons this sound.
Firstly, I had visits a bunch of auto repair shops.
They said to me the status of exhaust and drive shaft are OK.
And, currently, I am guessing this noise comes from CVT transmission or it's oil pump part.

I know that find-out the reason of noise is difficult.
However, If you know the why this noise comes from under the car when the cold engine started status.
Please tell me your opinion on this noises.

i have that issue too, it really scare the **** out of me coz i felt like a big bolt might be loose in the engine and it start REALLY rough,

it always happened on cold engine start up, then it goes away after, its been like that for me for the past 3 years i just go on with it

 

That clunking sound? Mine does that to! Just like Brabus that sound scared the crap out of me but i am happy that inam not the only one and someow... this is normal and i am not the only one. I saw a couple of threads when people reported that they heard clunkig fron unde the car.

A few weeks ago, I changed my oils in trans-axle and CVT transmission from the Lexus service shop.
As a result, I checked this sound was not changed.
However, I feel somewhat slightly decreased in both noise volumes and frequency of occurence. this may be placebo effect.
I shared this sound file to the my service adviser.
He said that if I want to check this problem, I have to left my car to service shop more than a day.
This means this noise issue more hard to catch in the regular service shop because noise reconstructing is a very time-consuming work.
If I found something. I'll update this thread.

Hello. Have you found the problem? I have a similar in my car.

 

Are you talking about the whining straight gear-like noise?
(yes, it's a 4th gen, transaxle is almost (if not) the same)
...and lots of others. I don't think
Haven't found many clips of an ls600h cold start, but I'm guessing the prius/rx450h/so on have a similar noise, just better dampened.
I think it's MG1 rotating very fast... could be wrong.

 

My gs450h 2008 also makes this sound and another weird rattling sound I hear on low speed when accelerating slowly. Drives me mad >_< but in general the car feels fine. If anyone knows what it can be, please update this thread.

 

For you guys hearing this, how many miles do you all have? My 09 doesn't do this (64k miles) but it's something to note since multiple owners are experiencing it.

I have the same issue. I changed the gearbox oil and it made no difference. My car is is 2011 gs 450h and I have 300000 kms on the clock. My second hybrid battery is also on its way out. Currently there is no one in south africa who can repair the gearbox or more so the hybrid generator within the gearbox as the lexus technicians think it might be coming from the generator within. There is no noise when the car is in motion and only make a rattle noise when there is a cold start.

 

I'm wondering if this is the transmission damper going out... I have this sound too, an odd clunking noise that is not rhythmic, seems quite randomThis might be the culprit but I could be wrong -> Cover Assy, Transmission Input Damper Toyota 31290-30010

 

Is the car shaking while it's doing that? "Minor misfire"-like? If you look at the diff guibo bushing, is the driveshaft moving about (when the engine is idling)?

First of all, my mileage is 155000 kms ( == 96312 mile)

This issue has nothing to do with the action below.
- Replacing all oils / fluids. (engine + mission + diff )
- Replacing hybrid battery, auxiliary battery, transmission oil pump, water pump and etc.

I'm guessing the following is the problem.
Lexus did not carry out a recall for the engine of the hybrid model (in South Korea),
I think it is in mismatches with the spirit of craftsmanship. ^^?

Symptoms..
When I start the engine after parking it for a while, it sometimes vibrates considerably.

The Lexus Service Center (South korea) told me it could recurred-again even if it was replaced as improved part (VVT CAM).
Until now, I've been driving it almost every day, and it feels mostly stable.

 

It doesn't sound like my VVTi...

like @Lwerewolf said it actually sounds like a random misfire.

when I replaced the fuel pump and filter + float assembly, it seemed to improve, now it's back again.

I've replaced all the coils already, next step is to replace the low pressure injectors.
