Alternator power cable?
Has anyone run a larger guage cable going from the battery to the altternator? I am moving the battery to the trunk so i want to run a 4awg straight from the alternator down the passenger side to the battery. Also another 4awg from the battery back up to the fuse box and accessories. Im doing it this way to try to help prevent alternator noise in the stereo.... Anyone have pics? I would just think you put a ring terminal on the cable right to the back of the alternator?
Yes, you can do that. People in the car audio world do it all the time. They upgrade 3 wires to prevent too much strain on the electrical system. It is called the "Big 3" if you upgrade these:
1. Alternator Positive to Battery Positive (optional fuse), 2.Battery Negative to Chassis, and 3. Chassis to Engine Block.
It is usually done with 1/0 awg wire, but you can you 4 awg wire. Here's a link explaining this in detail
