Unhappy need help - coolant system

I just found out that my 92 sc400 needs a new radiator and water pump, I am thinking of putting in the radiator myself, is it a tough job?
Also, does anyone know where I can get these 2 parts cheap?
Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks, Bob

Call 800-908-6068 ask for Gordon
Shop around, there might be a cheaper price but this is OEM. Als0 post the price for us. I like to know too

If you need to change water pump, change the timing belt, timing belt tentioner, idler, and cam seals at the same time. Same labor cost you don't want to pay the labor cost again when you need to change the timing belt.

800-908-6968 sorry

It is Carson Toyota in Los Angeles
The person you suppose to call is Steve Ganz. He's a forum member and I guess forum memer suppose to have discount from him

Lately I can't even talk to him??? He doesn't even answer his e-mail???
But Gordon can get the part for you too. He doesn't know much about Lexus but he will fax you the picture and you can call back to tell him what part you need. His price still good since Carson Toyota doesn't charge shipping. I can get about the same price ar a few dollar cheaper from a dealer in DC area but I still have to drive down to get it and pay tax too...

I guess most internet dealer sell parts at about 10-15% whole sale cost. The different is shipping cost and 10% instead of 15%...

Good Luck

I got a second opinion on my water pump - radiator situation and it seems that my water pump is ok after all, almost got screwed, so I can wait another 25K to change the timing belt.
But my radiator was still leaking. I put a can of Barn's stop leak in it. It's been a few days and no leak, still dry as a desert. Has anyone had any experience with these products? Are they a short term fix or will it last a long time? Thanks for your advice.

I don't think it's a good idea to use the stop leak thingy. It is better that YOU take the radiator out YOURSELF. Take it to a radiator shop and have them fix the leak, pressure tested it. Put the radiator back yourself. Since the radiator is aluminum it cost more to fix but shouldn't cost more than $100.

Check on the price of a new radiator and how much the radiator shop charge.

I'm pretty sure it's a plastic radiator. I found a used one that I am told is in excellent condition for 100. I think I can replace it myslef, it doesn't look like a huge job. I looked around but couldn't find any posts on how to do it. Have you ever done it?

It is the plastic housing. The core is aluminum. Even with a used one you still need to have it pressure check before you put it in. No I have not taken my SC400 radiator out yet but I have taken other radiators out (Corvette, Camaro Z28, Prelude, Celica...) It's just taking alot of bolts and nuts out that's all. The SC may have more nut and bolts to take out that all.
Take your time and take all the part that in the way. You'll get that thing out. Don't pay someone to do it. They won't put it back the way it was before and they will miss a bunch of bolts too. With the money save on labor for this job, you can buy a shop manual for future job trust me, you will get your hand dirty on your SC400. The SC still have problems, they just don't brake as much as American Cars that's all
