Question

I’m pretty interested in the Gtech Pro “performance measurement” device. I’ve checked out a couple of references on the web and it seems to work fairly well. One of the “reviewers” had compared the Gtech times (1/4 time and speed, and 0-60) with strip times and found +/- .2 time variation and up to 3 mph (high) speed. Knowing I’m not going to take my SC to the strip, I’d still like something better than the seat of my pants to validate differences – as when adding Borla and intake. Interested in whether any of you have had first hand experience with this unit. At only $130 (and possibly cheaper) if it works, its such a deal!

I have this unit and it works great. I have yet to throughly use it (lotsa cops in my hood) but I've done some 0-60 and 1/4 times and it worked as advertised.

The Gtech usually shows a slightly higher 1/4 mile speed than the one you get on a time slip from the drag strip. The Gtech gives you your speed at a 1/4 mile and the drag strip gives you your average speed for the last 60 feet of the quarter mile.

I have used the Gtech and it is easy to use and fun. The times appear to be very accurate as I've seen side by side comparisons of Gtech vs. time slip times.

OH MY GOD!! this is the best thing you can get for your car if you dont want to go to the track! As for accuracy i have no clue how accurate it is, but my best with my 5 speed sc300 was a 15.2 @96mph... thats pretty good for stock. I would recommend to buy this if you are having thoughts. Its easy to step up, you just have to find a straight strip not being patroled... then just go... its really that easy. I love that thing.

Ya I LOVE my G-Tech. It really does work great! And exactly as you said....for $130 you can't beat it! Especially when the next closest competitor's product is $2k!!

Thumbs up Gotta get it

Thanks for the input – The main thing that I’ve been concerned about is the accuracy. I don’t want to see 13 sec ¼ times out of it – not in my (practically stock) antique – I do want to rely on it to be close – I wish I’d had it for before/after tests of my exhaust system and intake.

What can you expect of a $130 unit that doesn’t hook into any of the car’s electronics (except a lighter)? I’ll take a .2 sec error rate and be happy. Incidentally, Gtech’s web site quotes a +/- .1 second quarter, +/- .1 0-60, and +/- 1 mph quarter speed. Pretty impressive. I also found a site that compared it to 2 other accelerometers, both much more expensive and it didn’t have as many bells/whistles. Personally, I don’t want it to ring an’ toot, I just want objective, reasonably accurate numbers, to help compare any kind of change that might have an impact on performance.

Anyway, I have yet to hear any negatives – so I’ll get one – wish I’d made that decision a day or two ago – then I could have had it for the weekend. Crap. Thanks again for the feedback, guys.

If anyone has a link to the page on www.summitracing.com that has the G-Tech, please post it. I can't seem to find it there using their site's search engine or any of their other search techniques.

Default Me either

FurySC400: I couldn't find it at Summit either - I've even checked their printed catalog and couldn't find it there either?? I did call several performance and parts shops here and now believe that they don't have any retail outlets in the Dallas area. I ordered mine from J.C. Whitney.

Sorry! I didn't re-read this thread until just now! Here's the link to it on Summits site...

http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...rchType%3DBoth

put that in your address bar. It will be the last item in the search.... GTP-GTECH is the part no I believe.

i have a gtech ss and it works great. i got times of 0-60 in 5.9 sec and 1/4 mile of 14.4 which is exactly what posted times for stock gs400. it seems to be dead on if you adjust/configure it right. it only took me like a few minutes to get it setup. you have to make sure your on level strait ground or times will be affected. i freakin love this thing!

tip when running 1/4 mile in gs400:
1) compress brake and rev to 2500 rpm
2) hit the gass and release the brake at the same time
3) youll see a huge diff in 0-60 and 1/4 times
