Default I Need Help!

Hey everyone. I am now the proud owner of my first lexus. And I'm excited to have a car nice enough to want to be on a forum talking about it. I just purchased a 92 sc400 and dont think i'll be buying anything but lexus from now on. Being a 92 though, and having 160,000 miles on it, i'm afriad that my car is in need of ALOT of tlc which I am more than happy to provide to her. I don't however want to go at this for my first time alone. I figure there's alot of experience here and am asking anyone that would be interested in maybe helping me through getting this car ready for the showroom floor.( really just my driveway pavement lol). I guess the first thing is that the only service manual I can find for it is like 200 dollars. I've seen on ebay that you can buy the disc but apparently from what I have read in these forums they stink. So, if anyone knows where I can buy one for a more resonable price or knows a cd-rom that is worth buying please let me know. With that said here's what I'm looking at right now: my back drivers side tire sounds like something is grinding spiradically. sometimes its non existant but when it does happen, it sounds like the rotor tipped sideways all of a sudden. it grinds, no grind, grinds etc. and the more i speed up the faster the grind/ the slower the slower the amount of times it grinds. the brake light was on when i bought it, but through these forums i found the brake fluid level was probably the culprit and it was. there is a light on that looks like the oil light but its not the normal oil light. its inside the rpm cluster. its an oil with like water under it and its yellow instead of red. There is also a light that comes on to the far left of the rpms that looks like the colliseum and it is also yellow. my speedo and rpm guage lights work spiradically but i already have plans to pull the panel and send it to lextech to get the 32 bright blue. unless someone knows a quick fix for it. lets see.... the brakes pads need to be replaced(r the green pads ive seen really any better then normal i have the heat dissipating rotors on it now, it needs new tires it has falken on it now if anyone knows where to get a good deal on a set of those or toyos let me know, i am probably going to replace the timing belt because from these forums it looks like thats really important, the biggest thing for me right now is the grinding though. when i first drove this car i couldnt believe it had so many miles. the engine feels bullet proof. still runs strong. anyways, thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide. charles

Charles- The second yellow oil light you have is a low oil light. Check the dip stick and add accordingly. The wheel grinding noise could be any number of things. Best bet is take the wheel off and get a look.

I recommend searching the forums. Every item you have mention (Even general maintenance issues) have been discussed in great detail. You should search and print each section you need.

Good luck and Welcome to the club!

Welcome to CL Charles!! I also own a 92 SC400 so I have probably gone through some of what you are/will.

The EBC Greenstuff brake pads (I believe that is what you're referring to when you say "green" pads), are excellent pads. The downside is that it is very hard to find rear pads. Most shop sonly stock the fronts. Also, they do cost more than an OEM material set. I went with a set of Satisfied Pads and am very pleased with the performance. Plus, if I recall it was like $30 a set.

Service manual is great but believe me, CL is a wonderful resource! I have been able to find any and everything I have looked for through this site! It may take a bit of time, but before you know it you'll be able to fine tune your search skills to get exactly what you want!

Lastly, mileage is nothing to these cars! I just turned 189k last week and I swear it still feels like a new engine!!!

The colliseum style light is for coolant. Mine used to flicker on until I topped it off.

Goodluck with the new SC... I just got my 92 SC400 3 weeks ago.

For a comprehensive guide to chnaging the pads, (which is very easy I might add), go to lexls.com. The DIY there may be for the LS model, but the idea is exactly the same. Plus, any of the engine DIY's there are exactly the same for us (except for the air box).
