Is It Just Me Or Does Everyone Agree????
I think the old SC's are a bit more popular than the new ones.... isn't that something.
OKAY NOW THAT I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION....
What can all of us SC users do to help repair/refurbish the condidion of our engines besides using premium engine oils? Are there certain parts that go first that we should be aware and change??
Can anyone recommed transmission fluid as well? Thanks a million fellow Lexus fans.
Up in smoke,
Cheech

Personally, even if I had the cash to spare I would not buy the new SC430, much prefer the looks and style of the older Soarer/SC model.
Engine longevity, I am assured that with regular servicing the toyota engines (both V8 and straight six) will see 200k, but synthetic oil is a must.

RodF;
thats for sure Rod, but in the UK the Soarer is Rocking Horse **** scarce, as it was never released for sale here, we only get indirect and used imports from Japan.
I believe the SC430 sold here will be around 60k GBP, for that money I would buy a used Aston DB7 - Real Class and one of the few motors that can take a twin turbo Soarer to the cleaners.

I agree, synthetic oil is a must. I would get some good spark plugs, use high octane gasoline, make sure tire pressure is right.
RodF,
we sould hook up I love both SC300/400/Soarer as well as the SC430!!! Are you looking for some wheels?? I just bought some new 20"s and I'm selling my old one's.

I agree with you all!!! I love my 92 sc400 look. Thats the reason that I
bought the car. I wanted something that looked classy but at the same time
v8 power and can whip just about anything on the street. I only wish that
Lexus should have made these cars start with 300 horses. Every time I
see the Infinity commercials, they claim that there new car has 340 horses.
Now thats alot of f@#k horse power......
Just a question, hows a sc400 against a is300? I have to ask? That is a
stock is300.

But, with only 12K available in 2001, and the 10K thereafter for the next two years, the bail-out resale value is bound to be a "Seller's Market". And with Lexus cutting Production of all of their Vehicles at 215 K + / - per year, every SC 430 just became more valuable, and this year's costs are probably less than those that follow. Check out the mass hysteria that these models are bringing for asking prices on E-Bay.........ones that are just Order Car Status are being bid at $3 - $5 K above the purchaser's cost price. Amazing in these rescession times!
However, 0 - 60 mph in less than 6 seconds; 60 - 0 mph in less than 114 feet; Top End in excess of 155 mph............and High Estimated Resale Value all add up to a very competitive automotive value in today's market.
Oh yeah.........you would bring up those Trash-Can Lid Wheel Covers, and the darn Run-Flat Tires!
Really a Cheap Shot, Blokes!

New SC and old SC are two different worlds, as the convertible hardtop opens up a whole new world.
Old SC was a classic. Even Lexus kept making it look worse with semi annual "refreshments" which never improved on the original.
Phoney chrome grilles, "revised" spoilers and valence kits never improved on the original masterpiece.
Don't believe new SC is an improvement, as much as a new ground breaking design...The 2002 is certainly a fresh design. It looks unique, and while perhaps not as brilliant a design as the original it stand out in a crowd unlike no other current car.
Still believe original 92 was a masterpiece of design. Fresh, original, breathtaking, and perhaps timeless classic.
Congratulations to those of you driving the original. At todays prices it is a breathtaking bargain.
My 2002 on these warm Summer nights, wth the top down, Mark Levinson belting out the tunes while I powerfully and silently cruise the coast...MAGIC!

Does your dealer stock the replacements? Is there any protection against bent rims from Lexus, or is it just another personal Insurance decision?
What are your favorite Cleaner / Wax, and Leather Cleaner / Conditioner to use on the new SC?
Which Color did you choose?

The "92" SC design does have a clean elegant look which failed to improve with the later facelifts and is much more affordable, I was in the City last night having cold beer outside the pub and a guy asked me how much it cost (a 92 TT), his face almost dropped when I told him it cost 12,500 GBPounds shipped and taxed from Japan.

I'm going to jump in on this one...
I changed my rims, and are therefore still trying to sell my OEM rims, which would be a "replacement" for anyone choosing to keep the original rims.
I've been using Zaino on the car religously. The finish is pristine. The leather smells like new whenever I apply the "leather in a bottle", and is not oily even right after application. The "leathersoft" cleaner is so effective I used it on our leather sofa's to remove years of ground-in dirt, and it worked beautifully.
BTW, the color I chose was silver with ecru interior. Beautiful!!!!

I've heard a Lot of Good things said about Zaino for the finish if these new cars. Do you feel it would be better that a Zymol Black Carbon Wax? Do you prefer to use "Leather Soft" / "Leather In A Bottle" over "Lexel Cleaner" / "Lexel Conditioner" for this particular kind of Butter-Soft Leather?
From my experience in having both a '95 325 Ci and a '01 330 Ci BMW, the Zymol Products' Chemistry would seem to be more precisely formulated for the (BMW) German Paints, than the (Lexus) Japanese Paints. Has this been your experience as well?
What Product do you use in your hand-wash water between Wax Jobs, that will minimize the amount of Wax that you remove in the washings? Are we to just not worry about it, and hand apply a finishing coat of Carnuba Wax after each hand washing with a non-wax stripping car-wash solution?

WOW - that's a LOT of bucks for a Sport Car, given the exchange rate in US Dollars! One would have a great deal of choices, including your most popular XK8 & XKR Convertibles, for about that kind of money. Are they available over there for a bit better price than over here?
