Im getting a noise under the car around where the cat - transmission is. 5spd 93 300 and it sounds like a ticking along the lines of crackling sorta like crackling of electricity. I noticed it thursday. It goes away then comes back goes away for awhile comes back ect. Anyone know what it is? Is it major that it would affect me driving down to atlanta from ny or should i get it checked out asap?

Do you notice the crackling when the car is off or is it running. If it is off it's just the cats cooling off and nothing to worry about.

If you hear it when it is runnig you might want to have it checked out, better safe than sorry.

 

could be a lose heat shield rattling? it's the metal piece protecting the underside of your car from the hot cat.

 

when the car is running... it goes away and comes back. Im thinking if its the front cat....

 

Its probably just the exhaust system cooling off. Even when my cars running the exhaust will make that cracking noise as its very slightly cooling down and heating up

 

its my CAT i needa get one but not from the dealer i wanna performance one maybe to get more horses???
