I have a 1996 sc300. My check engine light came on. I checked the code and it said cylinder 1-3-and-6 is miss fireing. Before the check engine light came on i changed the cap and rotor. After i did that, that is when the light came on. I also chaged my spark plugs and wires. It still say that the motor is miss firing..So i changed my injectors on 1 3 and 6..It still say miss fireing..could it be the distributor...i need help from you guys...my smog is due soon i need to get this problem fixed..Thanx
I would check the connections for each and every spark plug wire. I know when I put my new wires in my SC4, some were very difficult to seat all the way in (Bosch wires) and I also kept getting a misfire. I actually had to get OEM wires to replace the Bosch ones because I just couldn't get them fully on the plug. Also make sure that each wire is routed the correct plug. Double check everything you did. The problem is one of the items you replaced so it should be easy to find. What brand of wires did you buy?
I know this might sound pretty basic but did you confirm that you didn't put the rotor in 180 degrees off? I know when I did my SC 400 I made that mistake and the misfire was AWFUL. A quick teardown again will let you know.
Hey samsc300,
If yours is a SC300 and you would like to compare wire routing/rotor position, I could probably come by and show you mine.
Where are you located?
I'm in San Bruno.

There is only one correct way to put in the rotor. There is a notch in the rotor that lines up with a small **** on the timing gear. It is possible to place the rotor in 180 degrees off and what happens is that it sits too far into the distributor, scraping plastic off the inside of the cap. If you take off your distributor cap and see any plastic shavings, this is your problem.
I did take it apart already and the cap looks fine its not touch.. Should i replace the distributor.. I do believe that the stock lexus plugs come pre gap..What should i do next thanx...
