Window Tinting
Hi, I live in Pa. I have a Lexus Sc400 and I want to get the windows tinted. Anyone know the legal limit of tint is allowed. and/or how much it would cost to get my windows tinted?
most cops dont give a crap, most cops cant even tell. some cops do care and dont care if they can tell or not and they will give you a ticket. Just be careful, drive on streets where too many cops arent around most of the time. You'll be fine if you're not too dark.

new yorks 35 percent legal, i thought it would take me 180 for tints, but later found out i had some nasty old purple lite tints already on the car back from 1992, cost another 100 to take off the old ones, it costs nearly 300 bucks for it all but it came out real nice, one piece, 15 percent llumar with a lifetime warrenty, i need to take some pics

dang you paid alot more than me.. I have the same %15 Llumar, it cost 175, and since I brought a friend with me, he did my tint removal for 25 bucks, total was 200 for me and 175 for the friend.

well i have a friend that works @ a tint store and the legal limit down here is 30 on black and 35 on coloured so i got 2 30 tints 
and its black as. cost me 100 AUD for the tint and labour was free cops down here pull you up for like everything and i have only been asked about it once and i got my friend to fordge a 30% UV test and they dont ask twice once they see that

Well, in NYC, there are some cops rolling around with light transmission meters. Unless you get a clear reading (and they'll show you the reading on the device, trust me) they can't ticket you. And if they just "eye ball" it, it gets thrown out of court. Don't know about PA.

i always thought the legal limit was 70% here. I go to the tint shop and thats whats posted. But anyways everyone i know here has 20% tints or darker and no one ever gets a ticket for that. I dont think the cops care. They probably wont pull you over just for tints.
Well, its 30% absorbancy, or 70% transmission. The cops measure how much light is blocked. Most tint companies refer to how much light they let in. My tint on the meter was 75% absorbancy and he told me the legal limit was 30%. And I was sold tint that was rated 25. Not exactly limo tint, but pretty dark. Legal tint in NYC is sooo light, none of the cars I see with tint comply. Its true they probably won't pull you over just for that, but in places where lots of young people gather (Francis Lewis Blvd in Queens for example) they have the meters out in force.

). So the cop walks out of the station and says, "well you're gonna have to get that fixed first". I was like ughhhhhh, that's the stock tint, my tint film is in the backseat. So the idiot, dumb as he felt, signed it off, and I was on my way to getting upgraded to 30% tint on the fronts . I'm much happier now 
Oh and full tint costs $250 for the car, replacing the fronts cost $70, plus $40 labor to remove the old tint adhesive, which I paid because I was too lazy to go home and get adhesive remover and wipe it off myself

Over here in Jersey the cops just LOVE to pull EVERYONE over for tint!!! Especially if you live in the suburbs like me. Local, small town cops have absolutely nothing better to do than to bust people that take better care of their cars than they do!!!!!
