if you really want to do this and dont want to run the risk, you could run a relay. but then that would mean hacking stock wiring. not sure if its worth the effort to you
Originally posted by adidas1532 i have yet to do this because i've been so paranoid that the extra wattage would heat up and melt something in my wiring. i mean, the car is already 11 years old, so that only made sense to me. i did have the alternator replaced a few months ago, so it sounds like i should be ok if i do this. the only problem is, i have 9006's already in there.
I've had the 9005's in place of the 9006 lamps for almost 14 months now.... I shaved the socket of the lamp method rather than wiring harness..... big difference in light ouput and no problems with wiring.
Just because one car mods well doesn't mean the other will without a meltdown. All of our cars are different ages and in different conditions. cold climate, warm climate. Some harnesses might take it well, others won't.
The best thing to do is simply to go to Pep Boys and buy a replacement set of harnesses for only about $15. These are modded with extra heavy duty contacts and wire and are made JUST FOR these conversions. It's cheap, and eliminates a meltdown.
