I went with the Magnaflow race series and custom cat-back piping. Removed 2 resonators. And lemme tell you... there is a HUGEEEEE difference over the street vs race series. The race is SOOOO much deeper. It sounds like instead of a inline 6 I have a V10 in my car. I only have one complaint though... when Im cruising at say 60 mph... the car becomes as quiet as my LS. The stock exhaust was much louder when cruising. I guess its a good thing though that I wont have to hear that loud exhaust all the time but then again I wanted to hear it all the time. But when I accelerate... its a completely different story!! With the whole cat-back set up and the race series mufflers Im guessing I got about 20 hp. It sure feels like more but I know even cat-back wont give more than 25hp. I would recommend the race series to ANYONE who is considering buying exhaust. Anyways I got to go to college so I will hopefully post pics when I get back. The thing thats making me the most excited is that this already deep sound is gonna get even deeper in a couple of months!!

which model are you running? and where and how much did you get it for. I was going to go for the 14829 everyone else has since it seams to look and fit the best on the sc. But if you say the race series sound much deeper and perhaps gives a little more performance than i would go for those instead. the only race series that i found that had simliar dimensions to the 14829 is the 14851
Specs for 14829:
2.25" Inlet 4" Diam. Tip
Double Wall, Angle Cut
7" Length
14" Muffler Body Length
Specs for 14851:
2.25" Inlet, 4" Diam. Tip
2.5" Internal Race Core
Double Wall, Angle Cut
7" Tip Length
14" Muffler Body Length

I just got Magnaflow mufflers a month and a half ago...but no pics(Camera broke
)
I went with the 14827 Mags....single walled tips with resonators removed and 2.25" piping from the 3rd cat back.....after 60mph or after 2 grand on the tach, the new exhaust gets real quiet. The most noticable sound comes below 2k rpms...
Difference in performance, jus a little bit....
Difference in sound? Very....in a good way.......my 400 sounds like a muscle car now...LoL
And like everyone else who has the Mags, they are still getting louder....

I went with the Magnaflow 14851s. Like siaxazn said.. its the same specs as the street series. The only difference is the internal core. I believe I am the first one on CL to go with the race series. If there is someone else then please tell me. As for those wondering... the setup was somewhat cheap I guess. The mufflers ran about $225 for both and installation ( with the 2 1/4" piping) was $175. Total cost: $400. To some people it may seem expensive, to others it may seem cheap as hell. I was tight on cash so before I wanted to go with Ractive and THANK GOD ppl here on CL talked me out of it. I spent a little more money and went with something that sounds amazing and Magnaflow comes with a lifetime warranty. The deeeeep growl the car makes is so sexy. Today was the first day in 3 yrs that I went to college ( a 30 min drive) without turning on my cd player. That exhaust note was music to my ears. If anyone wants more info just PM me and I'll answer. I will try to borrow my friends video camera and get some really good quality video of the car.

This sounds about right, I ordered mine online from PerformancePeddler.com for less than 100 bucks a piece....than installation with piping was about $200, so it's worth it....I just wish I had this exhaust setup when I bought my car in '97....Originally posted by LeXuSrAcIn

So wait up a sec, you guys actually want your Lexus' to be LOUD? If what you're saying is that these mufflers will make my car annoying and loud then I should stay away from them. I don't need cops screwing with me over huge loud cans. Now I'm scared because I was going to buy the street series, but I don't want it to be loud, "deep" is one thing..."loud" is totally different

Its not loud like a honda by any means. The car has a very deep rumble and thats only when you accelerate. When cruising its more quiet than stock exhaust.Originally posted by mikeloc24

So,
No folgers can sound but it does have a deep note??
Sweet. for anybody out there, since it is only a 2 1/4 inch outlet, would that make a big difference with back pressure while working with a turbo??
let me know. I kind of got the impression that if you are going to do a exhaust return instead of an atmospheric dump you should go with 3" is this correct? or am I setting myself up for some major dissapointment?

Mike,
It's not that Loud.....trust me, if it was, I'd have these things hacked off so fast.....
I've cruised next to cops and they don't even look at me.....
Member llmidnitesc40ll has a pair of rear section Blitz Nur mufflers and it sounds almost like my Mags....a good deep throaty rumble...

I like the reviews these are getting, but my hesitation is that I will be going turbo eventually, and dont want to end up doing my exhaust twice.

Yeah, I second that. Loud cars attract cops and I had my share of being foloowed or pulled over because of a loud exhaust. I love the deep sound rumble it makes, but some cops will leave you alone and others will ticket you. If California didn't have all these laws reguarding car modifications, I'd definitely be modding my sc400.Originally posted by mikeloc24
