I just found this the other day and took it for a test drive. It is a 1993 SC400 with 125k on it and its fully loaded with tan leather. The asking price is $9,500 but that is more than I am willing to pay.... What do you all think is a reasonable price to pay for it? FYI.... it has a few stress cracks on the back bumper, scratch on the hood(not too bad), leather is cracking quite a bit, has a whining sound when acceling, and needs new tires, AND a tune-up...... It's not as bad as it sounds haha. Oh and any ideas on what the whining sound might be?.... It is actually more of a jet engine sound..... kinda odd.... thanks!
i would agree with OLT maybe $6,000 tops because of the problems u mentioned plus any other problems that u dont notice right away. Unless u have any service records I would be very specious of its maintenance.
Walk away from it..... There are better on the market for better prices........ To fix what you just described will cost lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
Nah... it only does the sound when you accel. The power steering pump seems to be fine in it. The only problem here in Bellevue WA is that the market prices for the cars are disgustingly high for these cars and it would be a junker for $6,000ish.... BUT I do get where you are all coming from for that price range and its a really good estimation but here in WA.... it sucks.... thats all i have to say haha. Thanks for the replys! keep *** comin'.
I live in Sammamish and work in Bellevue and you're absolutely right about the market price. I haven't seen any SCs for sale around but if I do I'll for sure let you know.
Alright cool thanks a lot! I didn't get that one by the way.... I had it inspected today and it needed $6,000+ in repairs so i said screw it...... But if any of you hear about a pearl white SC400 for sale let me know! preferably with tan leather but any pearl white will do! black will slide as well so just let me know! thanks again all!
Glad you didn't buy the fixer-upper. If SC's around your area are so much higher in market value, I would look at autotrader and travel farther to get the car. It may be expensive in your area, but it will be cheaper in Virginia, Massachusettes, NY etc. I took a 14 hour bus ride and drove 566 miles to get the SC.
Batmanwcm is absolutely correct. Look outside of your area on auto trader, cars.com, online clasified for the larger area papers (LA Times) and be willing to travel. Do your research first to see what the market is offering around the country. If you see one that you're interested in, maybe a CL member will actually take a look at it for you. You did good getting it inspected!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are also services that will do this if the SC is a distance away.
GOOD LUCK, and buy a good one the first time around since it'll cost you in the long run if you don't.
