On my SC300, the rear suspension squeaks when driving. Under slow speeds going over bumps are worse. I have replace all the shocks and springs with coilovers thinking that was the problem, but the problem is still there. I have greased all the bushings in the rear and that still didn't get rid of the problem. A mechanic said it might be the frame moving. Has anyone encountered this problem? If so, what was the solution it? Thanks everyone..
Have you replaced your bushes by any chance? Some bushes seem to dry out after applying grease on them (the reason why I'm not going for those urethane or whatever bushes).
Hmm... I guess it did dry out then. I've greased them before so. Thanks. BTW, roughly how much does it cost to change the rear bushings? I've noticed that there are alot of bushing in the rear if I was going to change them all. Thanks again.
i think i have the same problem. both my front and and rear suspension makes that sound when i go over big dips or over speed bumps. the sound is horrendous. it's sounds like something is bottoming out. i got my struts changed last week just because of it, but the sound is still there. i think i'm in the same boat as you jason, except i my car doens't look any better (stuck w/ oem struts) and still sounds bad. i'm going to try and figure out what the problem is this week. i dont' feel like switching any more parts out based on half guesses.
if someone has had this problem, please tell us how to solve it.
Those have a problem with the bushings on the upper rear control arms.
You will either need to replace the bushings, or replace the arms with arms NOT from that year/model - used or new arms would be fine.
You should do this asap, as you will be having problems with the arm/sleeve rubbing on your rear subframe, and it will start to cause some serious damage pretty quickly.
Check out a previous post by mrjohntan and you can see the damage on his car!
Regular "mechanics" will not catch this and will start to shoot grease everywhere, blame this or that, etc. etc. etc.
hmm. i have a 94, and the problem for me is more pronounced in the front than the rear. i'm wondering now if my original struts were even bad b/c right now i don't even have money left to repair what i originally thought went bad. how do i check to see if it's the bushing, the control arm, or both that are going broken. wouldn't the mechanic have been able to see this problem, i'm assuming it's pretty bad by the sound of it, when he was changing the struts?
The front noise is the lower rear bushing. Most mechanics will not see the problem, nor are they capable of diagnosing it. This is definitely your problem.
On the rear upper problem, you can use any year 400 arms, or 92-94 or 97-00 300 arms.
thanks a lot todd. i told my friend's dad, whose a mechanic, about my problem and what you guys have been suggesting is the problem on the forums, and he agrees. i most likely will get them changed next week with new oems (since i can get them cheap). my friend went back to check my old struts, and he confirmed that they were bad anyway.
one day i'm going to learn how to switch out these parts on my own to save labor costs, but i'm leaving it to a mechanic this time.

Jose
They dry out after you put grease on them? This truly makes no sense...

No problem. Yeah this specific problem really can't be seen unless you actually take the arm off, which most mechanics definitely won't take the time to do. It also passes the "grab and pull" or "pry" test to see if the arm is loose on the bushing, so they always overlook the bushing as the problem.
Sounds like your friend's dad is smarter than the average mechanic you should be in good hands.
