Lexus Direct4 on their hybrids can split power 50/50 between the front and rear wheels and in some situations rely primarily on its rear motor with a 20/80 front-rear power distribution. Will be curious how Direct4 is implemented on their BEVs
DIRECT4 precisely controls the delivery of drive torque from front and rear electric motors and braking force to all four wheels. By automatically adjusting the balance of front and rear-wheel drive, the system adapts the driving conditions to the driver’s intentions, changing the driving feel and giving the car the best driving posture. The system uses a front and rear e-axle, each featuring a high-torque electric motor and transaxle, focusing on optimum drive force distribution. As the motor is directly connected to the wheels by a single driveshaft, it operates without delay.

Looking forward to the international reveal, but is it safe to say that the RZ 450e will be starting at $60-65K+ in the US? No way will it be cheaper than the NX 450h+ currently on sale (mostly fully optioned so no cheaper base version), but just like the bZ4X with Toyota, Lexus will not be selling too many of them in 2022 to really matter about pricing. At least give it the Panasonic batteries...
Someone in Ireland leaked the press info early. 313 Horsepower dual motor setup, but only 400 km (248 miles) of range off what is presumably the WLTP cycle. It's also using the 71.4kWH Panasonic battery pack from the FWD version of the BZ4X, so at least the charging won't be limited to 100 kW. What's also unusual is that despite being AWD, it's FWD biased with the more powerful motors being mounted up front...?
Not sure if we'll get the exact same thing in the U.S. market (i.e. we don't get the 71.4 kWH Panasonic battery in AWD models of the BZ4X despite them being standard in Europe). But if it does get here, I hope they do something about that battery pack to get better range, because 248 miles WLTP will be reduced to sub-200 miles by the EPA.
Range will be pathetic using the same battery. Who cares if it's expensive? stick a big battery in it and give it 300+ miles of range, its a Lexus it doesn't have to be cheap.
I usually read most of the Toyota press releases as I like Toyota. This was a snooze ... I gave up near the end as it was so boring. Maybe because it is an EV.
Nice luxury interior.
Huge window up top.
Crap range
Steer by wire is the only thing I find interesting.
