Default Winter tire

My RZ is coming with summer tires, if I buy the winter tires, can I down size it to 18 inch tires?

Since no one responded, I’ll voice my opinion. i can find nothing that indicates that 18 inch wheels will not work on an RZ with original 20 inch wheels. But to make sure I would buy real original 18 inch RX wheels from Lexus to put your 18 inch snow tires on. As of yesterday TireRack.com does list a number of aftermarket wheels, but I’d hate to spend $2000 on a set of wheels and find that they interfere with the RZ brake calipers.

I ordered an aftermarket spare wheel and tire for my RZ and it came with a hub centric ring so it would fit the RZ. That is another reason I’d stay away from aftermarket right now. For a limited use spare a hub centric ring is OK, but for a full set in snow there is too much that can go wrong with installing aftermarket wheels that need rings for them to fit properly.

The RZ does not show up yet in any Lexus parts diagrams I can find with part numbers and pricing for replacement wheels. Have you asked at the parts counter at your dealership? Definitely do this using the dealership. There will be reprogramming tire pressure sensors at minimum, and at this newness obviously there are possible warranty concerns.

Thanks for your opinion. I would rather consider using 20” winter tires for the winter time.

Are you thinking of buying a second set of 20 inch wheels so your snow tires can remain mounted? Or will you be using the single set of wheels year-round, and having snows and summer tires swapped out yearly?

I will buy tires only because the tires are expensive, ev compatible winter tires are not many choices, the Michelin x-ice snow and Pirelli scorpion winter 2 only..
I really don’t know why the front and rear are different, this is more difficult to find tires…

Looks like the Michelins are the priciest option, Pirellis are lowest price. And there appear to also be Bridgestone Blizzaks about in the middle. At least on Tire Rack. But I last had winter tires as a Minnesotan 45 years ago, so I know nothing about present day winter tires.

I have Blizzak's and Hakkapeliitta's not sure which is better, depends on the type of driving. Both are great. I've also owned X-ICE thought they were somewhat poor on ice, ironically.

As this is the RZ forum and we owners are all interested in range to different degrees, don’t forget to look at the rolling resistance of each winter tire you include in your list.

I just read that Hankook has just released a winter tire designed for electric vehicles to the European market, so if you are looking you can add it to the mix. I cannot find info on available sizes and if and when it will be sold in the USA,

It is called the iON FlexClimate.
