Just to follow up on my own experience with programming card keys. After trying unsuccessfully to program two used (claimed unlocked) card keys from ebay, I decided to bite the bullet and get brand new card key from Lexus dealer. As expected, I was able to program it in no time at all. So, it sounds like ebay cards were not really unlocked, or they require more cleanup than sellers know about. Either way, new card definitely works.

Thank you @jahnjva , I bought part # you mentioned, which is the same part I saw elsewhere online as compatible with our RX.
Interestingly enough, I know for a fact that at least some previous generations of key cards were able to be unlocked, perhaps its just a matter of time before they figure it out.

Revisiting a bit of an older thread here but it appears as though some were able to program the NX type flat key card to their 2024 RX using Techstream software and the flat key part # 8990H-78491 for a 2024 NX (FCC ID HYQ14CBP) which operates at 315 MHz. The part # for a 2025 NX flat key card is slightly different at 8990H-78492. Not sure what the actual difference is between the two. The OEM fob on my 2025 RX FCC ID # is HYQ14FLC which, like the HYQ14CBP also operates at 315 MHz. My question is has anyone tried to program a flat key card to their 2025 RX and will part # 8990H-78491 work or does the part # 8990H-78492 for a 2025 NX need to be used to work?

8990H-78491 worked for my 2023 RX. I would ask the dealer if there is any difference with 8990H-78492 vs 78491. Don't tell them its for an RX because they will say neither will work because it's not an approved option on Rx nor will Lexus or Toyota program it. If 8990H-78492 works on a 2025 NX I would think it would work for the RX as was my case for Model year 2023. I know when I researched it in 2023 there were 2 different frequencies. One was for US and the other worked in Europe.

If all they tell me is 78491 is for a 2024 NX and 78492 is for a 2025 then I might as well try the 78492. Does that make sense? I have a local locksmith with the Techstream software that can do the programming assuming of course I get the correct part #.

Sounds logical to me. Don't forget to get the metal key. It does not come with the key card and will have to be cut by the locksmith also. The metal key fits inside the wallet card so you can get in if the car battery dies.

Yes. I had the card key with my prior NX and liked the convenience and comfort of the slim card in my pocket.

Just to verify this is what I am looking for correct (Transmitter sub-assembly, electrical key)?

Interesting because on that parts site part # 78491 indicates fits 2022-2025 so don't know what the 78492 part # is for. I will go to my dealer tomorrow to see what I can find out.

Sonny 3621 Looks like the site you found is even less than my Original site. I would call them before you place the order and ask them what the difference is in those 2 part #'s. The older # that I used says NX 2023 and 2024, the newer # says NX 2024 and 2025. My guess is the newer # just replaced the old one but they still have some old inventory. They both are the same price. I would also ask them if you can return it if it cant be successfully programmed.

On the parts site you referenced the part # you got (78491) says it's for 2022-2025 but I will find out what's up tomorrow and report back.

I found my local Lexus as well as Toyota dealers very unhelpfully because LEXUS does not officially endorse wallet cards for the RX. They told me it wont work and they refused to try and program it. Also their prices are much higher on parts vs online ever though dealers are actually filling the online orders.

My dealer is not far away and I'm only going there to find out the difference between the 78491 and 78492 part #'s. I won't be telling them what my plans are.

Went to my dealer today and actually they were very helpful and said they would do the programming (for a basic 1 hour labor charge) however they did say that technically since this is not officially supported by Lexus there are no guarantees and that I am on my own with the outcome which I can understand but they did say it should work. They also said they never tried this before and no one has asked them to do it. The difference between the 8990H-78491 and 8990H-78492 is that the xxx491 is for 2022-2025 NX and the xxx492 is for the 2024-2025 NX. The FCC ID on the xxx492 is HYQ14CBP. The FCC ID on my fob is HYQ14FLC. Both operate at 315 MHz. Don't know what else is different between the two unless the xxxCBP is for the flat key card and the xxxFLC is for the fob with buttons. Not really sure though. Jahnjva can you do me a favor and pop open your fob and let me know what the FCC ID # is please. Curious as to whether it's xxxCBP or xxxFLC. Do you know what the difference is between the two? Also - is your RX Canada built or Japan (first letter of VIN 2 or J)? Thanks.

You lucked out with your dealer. Not only would my local dealer not help with the key card but when I bought mine they refused to remove $2900 in addons (paint protection and seat stain coating). The dealer I used was instate but 100 miles away and shipped me the car for free with no addons.

FCC ID: HYQ14CBP My car was made in Canada. All US 450h+ are made in Japan, and I believe some front wheel drive models. Most everything else is from
Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. Think you are right CBP for key card and FLC for the fob.
