Default RX350 air vent/servo problems

Air wouldn't blow out driver vents. Took it to Lexus dealership and they said it would be $180 to diagnose and $2,500 to fix. Something with blend door servos. I was 45 days out of warranty. Apparently they have to take the entire dash out. Needless to say I was bummed....but what are you gonna do.

I show up to get it and the bill is $7.45 . They said its a known problem and Lexus just covered it.

this never happens to me...

Chuck, you left all of us hanging. What is this "known" problem with air vents? What did they do to fix it? How long did they work on it? Were there any parts replaced? Some details here would really be nice. Tell us everything you know.

Sorry about that. I will type the info from the Lexus dealership.

B1443- no.3 A/C servo, air outlet internal failure.
Replaced no.3 servo

They initially thought it would be $2500. The paperwork shows $1336.93. 406.93 in parts and $930.00 in labor.

They told me it was a known problem and they were just going to cover it. Initially they said they would not cause I was 45 days past the 4 year warranty. I did not ***** or complain....I said ok. THEY called me back and said they would cover it.

I recall once replacing a small plastic servo motor many years ago on my 2008 RX400h. It was easily accessible under the dash with a couple screws holding it in place and a snap on wire connector. I think I bought it online and replaced in a few minutes. I think it just swung a flap around to direct the sir flow in the right direction. I bet your repair was similar.

Neither have I, but I cant think of a reason why the dealer would make that up. If I was them and knew it was a problem, I would of covered it cause it is a known problem, but sell me on the idea that they did it out of goodwill

A few years ago I had this same issue with my IS. Lexus took 3 visits to get it fixed. Same thing happened. They reset the system. Then changed the valves in the engine bay. Then on the last visit removed the dash to replace those valves.

I was still under the extended warranty I purchased.

that's an all day job. Just for a bad servo is very unlucky. Normally servo motors are very reliable.

Default Bad Servo

Hi Everyone,
After my 2018 RX 350 AC stopped blowing any air on the drivers side but continued blowing cold on the passenger side I brought it in for service. I was told by the dealer service advusor it would cost 3k to replace the bad servo and I declined. While being diagnosed and adding a new batterry, though, apparently the tech did an update or climate system reset and eveything is working fine now. Has anyone else had this situation occur and, if so, did the re-set last or did the Servo go bad again? I'm aware of the CSP bulletin that came out replacing these things by Lexus but unfortunately it hasn't been extended to the RX yet.
Thanks

Common issue on Lexus. Lexus doesn't cover for some models like the RX.

More in thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...abor-cost.html

I read it's under the glove compartment area and if the mechanic can replace it through there then they don't need to remove dash.

Another youtuber has:

I had the same problem where the driver side vent stopped working in my 2017 RX. I tried cycling through all of the settings etc with no luck. I then searched on line and found someone who said they disconnected the battery and that caused a reset which fixed the problem so I tried this but it did not work either. Having lived with this for several months I came out to my car one morning and it wouldnt start due to battery issue but the battery never went totally dead. I had to jump the car with jump leads from my daughters car and once it started lo and behold the vent is working again!!!
