Default Driver seat position memory question

When we took delivery of our car, the technician saved my preferred seat/wheel/mirror position in the #1 location. The feature works great. I get in the car (with key fog in pocket). The seat, mirror, wheel are in what I am assuming to be a default position (seat is far back, etc.). It is when I start the engine that the seat/wheel/mirrors move to the saved positions. And then when I kill the engine, the seat moves back to the default position. I have read the way it is suppose to work is when you open the driver door the seat moves to the position associated with the fob of the person opening the driver door. Personally, I like the way mine works as it gives me more room to get in and get out of the car when the engine isn't running.

What am I missing? Should the seat move when the door is opened or should the seat move when the engine has started? How about when the engine is stopped - should the seat move to the initial position when the engine is stopped or does this happen when the door is closed? Or should the seat move after the engine is stopped or the door is opened? Like I said for me when I kill the engine the seat slides back.

In addition to this, when my wife drives the car (she is much shorter than me) the seat is left in her preferred position when she shuts the engine off and exits the car. Of course for me, being somewhat taller, I have to jam myself in, and then adjust the seat because even though I have my fob with me, it seems to ignore it.

So I'm a bit confused as to how this auto seat adjustment feature is suppose to work. I feel I know how to save the preferences to one of the three buttons (L1, L2 or L3). But can how/when the seat moves be programed as well?

It’s not the easiest to understand how it all works but starting here on Page 172 from the manual will get you going in the right direction, I believe. https://drivers.lexus.com/t3Portal/d...4U.pdf#page173

So when you open the door the seat is as far back as it can, when you start the car it goes to the selected position, if you have paired the FOB to the car, if not then you have to pair the FOB (each one) or press the appropriate button. When shutting off the seat will not go back till you undo the seat belt.

I disable the easy exit feature for the seat regardless.

We have never been able to get the seat memory function to work reliably, but it does work once in awhile so I know it's configured properly. It seems to work best if I use my key to unlock the car. If it's just parked unlocked in the garage and my wife had previously driven it, it never properly resets to my settings when I get in to drive.

This is how it's programmed to work. You have to unlock the car with your key. Meaning the car has to be locked initially.

So when my wife comes home and leaves the car in our garage, and later I get in with my key fob, it doesn't switch to my settings unless I lock and unlock it before I get in? That's so dumb.

This brings up another annoyance with the way the seat memory works. When you lower the seat, it also moves the seat forward due to the physical design of the up/down mechanism. My seat position is lower and further back than my wife's.
Here is my complaint: Whenever you switch settings via the memory switches, it changes the height first, and then the position front-back afterward. So, when switching from my wife's settings to my own, the seat first moves down and slides forward to the point where my knees are physically jammed into the dashboard, before it moves the seat back to the memory position.

I'd suggest to press the button 1st and then seat yourself down/in.

Most people lock their car when they get out. So the car is just supposed to know which key is just opening the door?

I don’t think you can make that generalization. I never lock my cars in our locked and alarmed garage. The only time we lock our vehicles is when they are away from our house, such as a mall, movie or restaurant. In that case, we would likely only have one key with us. Perhaps the correct statement would be “most people that park outside lock their cars when they get out.” As to your question, the car should know which key is inside the vehicle. If both keys are present, perhaps then it should “remember” the last position?

Really, how hard is it to just hit the lock button on the way out of the garage, thereby solving post #22's issue.
