Hi Cropdustef,
Alas, the answer is no since your 2016 RX does not support Android Auto or CarPlay. There is really no practical way to do this. Sorry........

Thanks. I didn't think so. I'm OK with the technology in my RX350 but for the navigation.
I recently bought a Carlinkit CP2A wireless CarPlay & Android Auto adaptor and it works absolutely flawlessly with my 2020 RX350 (loaded, including Mark Levinson audio and 12" navigation). The 2023 RX should have wireless connectivity for these apps but I don't believe any previous RX's have this feature (thanks Toyota).
The bottom line is that for ~$100 from Amazon your RX is in business, wirelessly. I highly recommend this approach :-)
Hi, i am using wired android auto, will it fit my car?
Nothing is visible. The Carlinkit unit is smaller than a pack of cigarettes and it just get plugged into the USB jack in the console and it then just stays in the console completely out of sight.
I'm not sure what 3G has anything to do with carplay/android auto access but I purchased a wireless adapter for my 2021RX for carplay and it works awesome. This adapter also supports Carplay and Android auto.

Hi Chiefsfan - Look in the Navigation Manual under Basic Function for your vehicle, it should tell you what to do with your RX's infotainment system to get you working with Android Auto.

Thank you Ill try that..I got it to work with a cable, so thats not an issue. I didnt know the Navigation manual covered wireless since it doesnt have wireless.

I use the upper usb and it works. Lower doesn’t for some reason.

Thats funny you mentioned that. I'm seeing the same symptom on my 2021. The funny thing is, if I use my apple cable both USB ports in the console work with carplay fine. When I use the adapter, it only seems to work on the top USB port in the console. I find that odd but otherwise the wireless function works well. It takes a tad longer for everything to come up then direct wired as it establishes the connection but once its up it seems to be fine. I have noticed that my spotfy occasionally cuts out for a slight second here and there, but otherwise its fine. The minor annoyance of that is worth not having to run the wiring so I just deal with it. It's not too often.

I haven’t noticed any drops but it does take more than 10 seconds to connect on my 2022 RX450hL. However on my wife’s 2020 ES350h it’s about 5 seconds to connect. Re the top and bottom USB connectors, like you I have no problem connecting hardwired via Apple lights cables to either slot but only the top works for Carlinkit 2.0.
Hi. New owner. Just brought home a ‘22 f sport Thursday. Very ocd. When I realized I needed to have a cable running from my console to my phone for CarPlay I decided no way. I like things clean and I figured I’d run the cable through the console and up into the bottom of the phone pocket. First let me apologize for not being savvy enough to comment, add the related pic one at a time. Narrative then pics to follow.
First I purchased a right angle usb cable from Amazon. I will add a link.
Removed passenger side knee bolster and popped out the little panel the usb plugs are in.
I made a small notch with a round file for the cable to pass through. Added a small grommet for a more finished look and reinstalled it. Next pulled up the female end of the usb adapter and connected a 3’ iPhone cable. Ran that though the console. Very easy with the knee bolster off.
I removed the liner and drilled a 5/16 hole in the bottom of the pocket. I cut a matching hole in the liner with a razor.
Next I passed a small piece of cord through the hole. I then used a coat hanger with a hook bent into it to reach in and grab the cord. Pull out the cord and tape it to the cable. Once joined with a piece of electrical tape I puled the cord back out and worked it through the hole.
Once it was through I untaped it and passed it through the hole I made in the liner. Replaced pocket liner, reinstall knee bolster and enjoy your cable clutter free console.
This was actually pretty easy to do. In fact I finished the job and realized the red cable I’d used did not pass smoothly back into the console. It had a cloth woven jacket and was kinda stiff. I pulled it all apart and swapped in a thinner, more flexible plastic coated cable. Hope someone finds this useful.
