Nice work. I did a similar solution with my aftermarket system.

Carlinkit is much easier and it will work your model. Much more flexible.

I might try this soon.

Not a big deal but would prefer to have my phone in the pocket vs the console.

I have heard very mixed reviews on the wireless adaptor. Some love it and have no problems, but I have read a ton of reviews where there is some latency, and/or disconnects.

Agree on Carlinkit. Have three now. All work perfectly with a simple install. https://carlinkitcarplay.com

I can see how the carlinkit would be nice if you have a phone that does wireless charging. Since I still need to plug in to charge I actually prefer what I’ve done over a carlinkit. And it was only $8.

The Carlinkit seems like a great idea but they sure have a lot of bad reviews on Amazon. I don’t buy many things with a 26% terrible rating.

what you did was awesome but you still have that one extra full usb port next to the one you connected to for this project to use for charging plus many others. .

when I got ours last year the reviews were great and since it’s Amazon you can return it within 30 days no questions asked.

I don’t spend a lot of time in our vehicles so wireless charging is a mute feature for me. Longest trip has only been four hours and the phone handles that easily wi5h out worrying about charging. $8 bucks is great but you don’t value your time! At this point in time my time is far more important to me than the cost. Although, I did get a great deal on ours during a woot off a few years ago. Mine are the model 2.0 Seems like the reviews have gotten far more worse with the newer models. The most important thing is you are happy and in the grand scheme that’s all that matters. Enjoy

Default Wired Android Auto?

Am I correct that the 2016 doesn't work with a wired cable/USB and Android Auto?

I’d love to see a video on this some day. I’m hesitant to do it myself for fear of breaking things.

Someone should make a video demonstrating this modification. I’m contemplating it; but, am not sure if I have the proper tools.
