In my 2016 Lexus RX450H, I found one unpluged wire exactly behind the grille, and I couldn't figure out where it should be connected to. Could you please check the photos I uploaded and tell me what is this wire for ? Could you also please check your cars and share with me some photos of this wire (if you find it in your cars), in order to know where I should plug it.
Then, by logic, it is there to power a feature not installed on your vehicle.
I disagree for 2 reasons. First, my car is top of the range. It has all the possible features for this model, in its region, and there are no way to add anything more to it. on top of that, Lexus engineers are not stupids to let any electric wire be exposed to those daily harsh weather factors, in this careless way. I’m pretty sure that it should be pluged some where. Would you please have a look at your hybrid cars and check where it’s connected to ?
Thanks for your cooperation guys

Perhaps for the outside temperature sensor? On my old RX (and perhaps my newer one) it was mounted in front of the radiator. Does your RX display the outside temperature?
I agree with dibl. Just look at how corroded the terminals are. It's been disconnected, er, not in use for quite some time. Do you have the cold weather option?
I don't see anything unplugged like that on my 2021. Of course, my example is a newer model hybrid which requires the "noise maker" to help blind pedestrians to recognize the vehicle, plus it is a "base + premium" model. Is it possible due to manufacturing standardization practices that they just included the jack for the noise maker on all vehicles in this generation and then only plugged it in to hybrids, once the regulation went into effect? Is that device even a requirement in any countries outside of the US?
Yep, one of my grad school classes went into some of the practices that made Japanese car manufacturers “leaner” and more profitable than traditional American car manufacturing techniques. American car makers historically might have had a dozen or so different wiring harnesses in this instance: one for cars with cold weather package, one for cars with fog lights, etc, under the fundamental premise that they were saving a nickel here and a dime there by not having unnecessary connectors or wires, they were matching each harness to the exact options required. Whereas the Japanese figured out that it was cheaper in the long run to just use one “universal” harness. So what if it had a few extra connectors? They would be stocking just one harness, and on the factory floor it was far more practical to use one harness for all cars than to have to manage multiple parts and ensure the proper part went into the proper car.
Agree with PhxBill.
He nailed it! It's called lean manufacturing and reduced inventory and it's the smart way to build cars. It also allows features to be added after the fact.
Before coming to Lexus from the Dark Side I sold Chevrolets.
The Cavalier had a loss leader trim level called "VL" for Value.
It had the footwell Courtesy Lights sockets installed and wired
but the bulbs were deleted! Had a box of the bulbs in my desk
to twist in when ever I sold one...
