Headlights Auto-on Sensitivity
Not sure if this is posted in another place but I could not find it. What does the Headlights Auto-on Sensitivity mean and what should it be set on? I googled it, searched here and I can't find it in my book or manual. Its one of the settings on the big NAV screen under "settings - lights - exterior". TIA
It is pretty obscure, for sure. It took me 10 minutes of searching in the manuals to find something about it, for my 2018. Under User Manual section 4-3, "Operating the Lights and Sensors", at the end of the section, p.255, I see "Customization" and it says "Some functions can be customized (--->P.722)". On page 722, I find "Automatic Light Control", and the first item in the little table is "Light sensor sensitivity", with a default setting of "Standard", and an available range of "-2 to 2". I THINK that is what your NAV screen settings are referring to. I would guess that going to -2 will reduce sensitivity -- i.e. the headlights take longer in the morning to turn off, and take longer in the evening to turn on. Going to a setting of 2 would reverse that timing.
Thanks so much for your help! I really appreciate it. I presume with my settings from 0-5, the closer to 5 the sensitivity will be greater, meaning the earlier the lights will come on in the evening & will take longer in the morning to go off. I will call the dealer tech dept this morning and check. I sure don't need them to come on later in the evening.
I find the default setting to be pretty responsive so I'll just keep it at that - my test is tunnels - if it turns on fast enough when I hit a tunnel then that's good enough for me.
But good to know how to tweak it - let us know once you confirm which direction makes it more/less sensitive. Thanks

Hi, Spoke with tech department at the dealership, you and I both are under the same and dealer confirmed the higher the number the more sensitive and the lights will come on before dark. Thanks again for your help.

but the "green lantern" dash icon that indicates the headlights stays on for another
15 seconds.

The adjustment seems to apply when 1) you live where it is cloudy much
of the time, 2) you commute at dusk and/or twilight, 3) you have somewhat
reduced vision particularly at night. Tweeking the setting to enable the lights
sooner might aid any of those.
There are now also settings for how bright you might like the BSM icon to glow
in the rear view mirror as well as the range that BSM "sees" adjacent cars.

1. I have my headlight sensitivity setting to #2 and took the car out the other evening around 7::15pm and once out the garage about 2 minutes, headlights came on. That was my goal for my lights to come on around 20-30 minutes prior to nightfall.
2. How do you set "There are now also settings for how bright you might like the BSM icon to glow in the rear view mirror as well as the range that BSM "sees" adjacent cars."?
