I could be wrong, but I thought the non F-sport without HUD does have the capability to show the current speed as a numeric value in the MID. In the Info panel, if you scroll down past the tire pressure and AWD display, just before it goes blank, there's an option to show the speed.
I just went out and checked my 2017 RX350, non HUD and I can find NO digital speed display capability. Just the normal 0-160 speedometer.
The non F-Sport display of digital speed that shows in the Driver Information Center while
using the Dynamic Radar Cruise is your Set Speed...the Analog dial speedometer is your actual speed.
That is correct. It would be rather ridiculous to have the digital speed sitting right next to the speedometer. The F Sport has the digital speed in the center of the digital tachometer.

Toyota does this with the Tacoma and I don't really get the point.

I had a NX loaner recently that had the same speed display in the MID; that's why I thought the non-HUD RX would have the same thing since the interface between the two is nearly identical. I don't have access to a non-HUD RX, so could not confirm.
True, but how many people drive through your neighborhood where the speed limit is 25 MPH and they're doing 50, you think they are looking at their speedo.
In case one breaks? Redundancy and preference as a feature
Do they break often? I’ve been driving for nearly 30 years. I did have one snap a speedometer cable many years back, so I replaced that, but never on a modern car.
I have a new 2020 RX350 and I share the concern for no speedo. The salesman also was unsuccessful. The point is that when the visibility of the "analog" speedo is not ideal, a brief glance at a digital display is very useful. It could be on the dash or on the GPS display. Anyone know how to get the vehicle speed to show up on the GPS?

There is a digital speedo on the Waze app which shows up on the GPS via CarPlay.
