RX long wheel base or GX
Hi everyone,
i currently have a Mercedes glc300 that I leased and have 5 more payments on it. I’m looking for a larger suv and I’m trying to get a decent monthly rate for a new lease payment. Do you suggest the new rx L or do you think the GX is a better choice? TIA!

Thank you for this info! How do you like the RXL? Are you happy with your decision?
This may not help , I realize
I have a 2015 Rx and a 2008 Gx and the Gx amazes me every time I drive it , it's the nicest riding vehicle I have every owned
If I were in your position , I'd go for the GX 460, hands down

thank you it does help! I think where I’m confused is some of the interior features in the RX are really nice

Its a great cruiser and family vehicle, and has a wonderful interior in the Lexus line up. Also it will not create a dent in your pocket when filling up!
However its not sporty and third row is an occasional use for kids. In my case, 2 rows are most used. Its not great offroader like GX but felt technically more advanced as RX did a complete makeover from 2016 onwards.
I am happy with my decision as it serves my purpose well.
Just for clarification's sake, it should be noted that the RX-L is not a long wheelbase version. Both the regular RX and the RX-L share the same wheelbase. RX-L has a longer rear overhang.
The GX and RX are both great vehicles, just different flavors.
I've been considering a GX, and I've been reading on the GX forum that people are getting '18s for under $50k, so it sounds like there are good deals out there if you are interested. We had a '13 RX and sure loved that thing, so you can't really go wrong with either.

I’m glad some people are getting great deals for under $50k. The advertisement I saw was $449 a month for 36 months with $4000 down and 10k a year. When I went they basically told me the car didn’t exist and it was based on an Msrp of 53k. I was then quoted $719 a month with 4K down and 15,000 miles a year. That was based on a 56,000 car that they supposedly discounted 5k
We have both cars - 2016 RX and a recently purchased 2018 GX Premium. Both are great cars, here is my observation:
I really hope that Toyota updates the GX in the next year or two (rumors have been floating around for some time). If they can update interior to RX level, get rid of the annoying lift gate, and possibly improve MPGs - that thing will sell very well.
- Looks - I like GX better. It is more masculine and rugged, even though length wise they are about the same.
- Interior - RX wins hands down. I passionately dislike the RX's mouse/joystick, GX is definitely shows its age. The 3rd row in GX is basically useless. If you put it up, you have 5 inches of cargo area in the back, barely for 2 grocery bags. We have our 3rd seat down all the time. Even with 3rd seat down, the cargo are is smaller in GX than RX. Also, I'm 6' tall and need to use side step to get in and out GX. There are small things in GX that are annoying - i.e. if you stream music / books through bluethooth, when you receive a call in RX, it will pause your bluetooth streaming and resume where you left off, but in GX it will just continue to play. Nav screen is RX is 10x better than GX. The rear gate in GX is not very comfortable compared to liftgate in RX.
- Gas mileage - somewhat of a surprise here. RX was rated 20/28 MPG and I barely get 21 MPG on my work commute. GX is rated 15/18 MPG and I can get 18 MPG on my commute. GX requires premium while RX regular.
- Driving dynamic - RX is very easy to drive and very smooth. GX is body on frame, so it drives like a truck and you can feel it. When you brake - you need more room and truck nose dives a little. Definitely more effort in driving GX (maybe b/c it is still new and we are not used to it). RX does have that jerky 8 sp auto. With GX, going between 40 mph to 70 mph you almost need to floor it to get the truck to move. Seems this is common among GXs.
- Price - they are about the same.

We also have a 2016 RX and a 2018 GX Premium! I would agree with all the points that rusn007 made above.
I honestly don't do a whole lot of offroading - though never hesitate to when the opportunity presents itself. Having said that, I had been eyeing the GX for some time now waiting for a refresh to happen. When the deals on the 2018 started showing up, it became an easy decision for me to buy one. My wife drives the RX and cannot understand why we needed another SUV, especially something so big and gas guzzling. Not sure I can offer a justification, other than I really wanted one

My experience , observation is different , I drove my 08 GX to dealer to drive the new 2017 RX and my GX drives more like a luxury vehicle , softer and quieter with much better view of road due to larger windows and down slopping hood .
The new body style GX , the rugged looks . well ,looks rugged , not to my liking , my 08 has more luxury lines , sophisticated ,
Toyota is making their accelerator pedals so you have to press down way more to make it go , the Rav4 and GX and other models are the same way , maybe they are wanting us to learn to drive slower for better gas mileage
