Had the same thing today on my 2017 NX they use the spiderweb story want to charge me $278 to update the hose with a small filter and $2000 to dry out the carpeting. This is a bunch of bull and I need answers from lexus! This car is certified with extended warranty
'22 RX 350 (bought it brand new last year), same issue with mine! They claim insects clogged AC drain. Noticed water in front passenger floor. Entire interior has to come out, carpet and padding/insulation beneath needs to be replaced. Quote-$8,000. Not covered by warranty because it's due to "outside forces" and not manufacturer issue (BS). Have to go through insurance and pay deductible. Super upsetting. Oh and it'll take 3-4 weeks. My first Lexus, disappointed to say the least. I got a Lexus instead of a BMW so I'd have piece of mind. The irony.
I have personally had less than favorable experiences at that dealership. Jumping immediately to a lawyer is not the best way to approach it. I would recommend going to Lexus of Route 10 in Whippany, head and shoulders above the rest. However, I have seen several of these types of threads and the "spider web" explanation. I park outside and I have tons of spiders, no issues in the last couple of years. If you get the same response, you can request the dealership to keep escalating up the chain. Also express your dissatisfaction in the surveys they send you via email, Lexus takes them very seriously. I cannot stress this point enough. Remain civil and it will go a long ways in remediation. Good luck!
Lexus of route 10 in Whippany told me it's not covered by warranty. Ironically, my service advisor said he had the same issue on his '20 RX and had to do the repair via insurance.
I am having this problem now. Mold in car and Lexus said it’s from a spider and not under my lease warranty. Insurance says not covered bc it’s a maintenance issue. I have never missed a maintenance which I get down by Lexus. They want $8000 to fix it. I have less than a year left on my lease. I am seeing so many posts with this same issue. It seems like this is a known defect they do not want to address!!

Instead of going to the dealer or a body shop for water damage repairs you might get better service and cost savings at a local auto upholstery shop. My friend owned one before he retired and they repaired water damage on cars, trucks, tractors, buses, airplanes and everything else. Google it and see if there is a shop in your community.
Yes you are exactly right. Apart from the pictures you saw the fabric roof lining was soaked near the cabin lights. Nobody will buy this car knowing there was water intrusion into the interior. I have been told the most damaging hits in a CarFax or other vehicle history report are water damage and body work. People in the dealership who had been there for 30 years have never seen this happen, particularly in a Lexus. Whats worse is the complete nonchalance and lack of empathy from corporate.
I would completely take in my stride, a fused indicator light or a faulty power window. But water in a car is a big deal in a car thats barely a month old. The sensitive electronics under that touch pad may eventually fail. Thats why all I'm asking for is an outright exchange or buy back. I am sure this an extremely unusual occurrence for Lexus or for that matter any car manufacturer. I am willing to accept that I was the unlucky one who got the one bad car they made among millions. But they should make this right. It took months of research before I switched from driving Acuras for over 20 years to buying this car. I feel horrible as I was really blown away until this incident happened.
PS. I still love the RX. I now know why its been Lexus's highest selling car.

To all Lexus owners who were/are affected by the so called spider web/insects issue clogging the AC drain line - please let me know if you are interested in filing a class action suit. I will be contacting a lawyer shortly. Thanks.
