Default Mobil 1 0W-20 Variants

New owner of 2018 RX350L

Long time user of Mobil 1 oil.

What variant do owners recommend?

Personally I use the Toyota synthetic, which I believe is made by Mobil anyway, and formulated specifically for Toyota/Lexus vehicles.

However, given your preference for Mobil then, as you're in the US, I assume you change oil every 5k miles, so I can't see any point in the extended performance variety, so would probably go with the full synthetic.

To be honest, as long as you're doing regular oil and filter changes, it probably won't make much diffference.

I use the Pennzoil 0w20 synthetic

Mostly cause I like to say P e n n z o I l

That is my scientific reasoning. I also change it every 5k....so if I had to use the walmart 0w20 for 5k i wouldnt sweat it.

Please don't report me to the oil-change police.

I've been using "Kirkland Signature 0W-20" from Costco. I stock up when it is on sale, 2 bottles of 5 quarts each for $30.

And I change oil according to the schedule from the manufacturer.

Please don't tell anybody that my 2015 Honda Accord turned 180K miles last week, and the odometer of my 2002 Honda Odyssey shows 202K.

Listening to the manufacturer of your vehicle what are you crazy. You confirm change your oil as your manufacturer states with any major brand of synthetic and you will be fine. I have changed every 10,000 miles as Lexus states for vehicles driven over one million miles collectively and never had an engine problem. I happen to use Mobil 1 Advanced Formula all these miles but any major brand works. I just bought two five quart jugs at Walmart for $24 each. Twice a year they run $12 rebates on these.

i was at the parts counter at my Lexus dealer and they had pallets of Kirkland oil. They were saying they couldn't get any from the supplier so they bought Costcos. I posted a pic of it here...maybe a year ago.

I'm glad he dropped the pornstache and was able to buy a stand for his camera. I buy Mobil1 extended and Pennzoil ultra when they go on sale and rotate with both.

Any properly rated and weighted oil will work fine. Owners manual lists these requirements.
I use Pennzoil full synthetic but any brand will be fine. I buy the 5 quart jugs on sale for about $25 and change every 5000 miles. I do my own changes so the total cost is about $30.

I use Amsoil, every 5K miles, for the high TBN, because my driving is mostly short trips in the suburbs. But I would suppose any synthetic 0-W20 would be satisfactory, changed every 5K. 10K intervals is too long, except for highway commuting. IMHO.

yep the obsession with super brand oils is fiction. It's proven over and over again unless you're racing the Indy 500. Ssshhhh not telling anyone about your high mileage Hondas!

Default Amsoil

I know that "oil threads" usually bring a big storm. But, this is not that. I have already formed an opinion about Amsoil having used it in my motorcycle with great success. I have, however, read that the V6 in the 4RX can be sensitive to oil. Any experience? Anyone using Amsoil?
