It is not in Toyota's interest to deliberately sabotage the reliability of their engines by recommending non-optimal oil, just to hit EPA numbers. Especially for the Lexus brand, which sells on its reliability reputation. I would have to see an analysis of the results of a rigorous test program to believe that there is a viscosity grade other than 0W-20 for best long term reliability of the 2GR-FKS.

I know.....it was sarcasm. I am pretty sure that both the 4 and 6 are BMW engines. Maybe I misread his reply but I thought that he was implying that since the 4Runner has a different engine then it was apples and oranges.

Then it hit me - should I do the same for my wife's RX350?

Long story short - I know the RX 350 uses 0w20 (probably for emissions purposes just like the supra)
should I change to a thicker oil to give it more protection?

What are you folks doing? Any common issues found with the 2021 model?

Thanks in advanced
I think I heard that the Supra engine is a BMW, also I think that BMW uses BMW parts throughout the car. Stick with the 0w-20 oil.

Mechanically the Supra is 95% BMW.

Yea. Saw the program MotorWeek on the MotorTrend network and they did a drive on the Supra. Not bad for a Japan/BMW!

Default 5w30 Grade Oil

Anyone using 0/5w-30 currently in their engine? This question is for those who are using it. If yes, how is it?

I service all our cars as well as friends cars. I have a stash of Mobil1, Kirkland, Quaker State and Valvoline, in multiple weights.

FYI, I subscribe to 5K or 1 year oil change intervals, changing the filter every 2nd service.

I have always changed my oil on my vehicles and my daughter and her family. No way would I not also change the filter EVERY time. After all, that is where the bad stuff gets caught. Most filters have a bypass so if it gets stopped up you are no longer filtering the oil! I also use the manufactures oil filters instead of the aftermarket filters. In my opinion they are better. Seen too many test of aftermarket filters being made cheap.

Hello Gents,

I have bought RX 350 Fsport model 2019 from Canada and brought it to my country Oman.
in the manual, it stated that i shall used engine oil type: 0w-20. However this type of oil fits the cold weather like in Canada not the middle east where the ambient temperature reach in summer 55 celsius degree. So i’m asking what is the right type of oil that fits my region in Oman. Or i should’ve used the same mentioned in the manual.

NO. Here in North America we have Death Valley, California and also the deserts in California, Nevada, Arizona, etc. The 0W-20 is for all climates.

What Dibl said, the only thing I'd add if you really want something thicker is go to 0W30, but no matter which one you use Make absolutely certain that it is fully synthetic.

I would use the oil mentioned in the manual. No matter the outside temperature, the engine will run at the same temperature. The oil viscosity numbers have to do with the close tolerances within the engine. Happy motoring in Oman.

Is there anyway you can check with toyota/lexus dealership in the middle east to see if they spec different oil for our 2GR-fks engine? Let me know what you find, I've always wondered if they have different spec in the middle east.

but if i were you i wouldn't lose any sleep if i could only find 5w-20, if 20 weight oil is strong enough for those new hot turbo i-4 engines then it's probably good enough for NA v-6

There's a sticker on the front top of the radiator, it reads 0W-20!!!!! That's what you use, or whatever that sticker reads!!!!
And read the owners manual!
