I had a 2016 and now 2020 RX use 89 top tier fuel on both. I get about 26-28 mpg on the hwy depending on traffic. The few extra cents per gallon on full-ups is worth the slight increase of performance for me.

I don't think you will find a whole lot of people on this thread who spend their time accelerating up a hill or going up a hill at low rpm.

Right -- only the ones who actually want to compare performance with 87 octane versus performance with higher octane.

Wife got a 2021 AWD RX350. Her car, but I've driven it more miles than she has. Anyway, have only filled the tank three times so far, but am disappointed in the MPG so far. I've always been able to get very close or even beat EPA numbers with my vehicles, but not this one. At least half of the miles would be considered highway, and we have only been around 19-20 mpg. It's rated at 19/26, so I should be getting 23-24 at least in mixed driving, not 19.5.

And to answer the next question, we've been driving it pretty gently, not hard on the go pedal. Have you seen MPG go up when the engine is broken in more, or is this it?

Are you relying on the "Info" MPG display, or are you doing the calculation? Also, I seem to always do better when I use radar cruise control, assuming there are long enough stretches of highway to justify doing that.

Our average over the past 100,000 km (62,000 miles) is 12.5 l/100km or 18.8 MPG. 50% city 50% HW. On long trips I can bring it down to 10 or 9.5 if I try. Not good on gas for sure. If Fuel economy is important then you should look into Hybrid for sure.

Doing my own calculation, which has actually been quite close to the car's computer. I use cruise control as much as I can.

Yikes! That's what I'm afraid of. We looked at the hybrid version, but there were VERY few to be found when we were shopping in December and January. Most dealers didn't have any.

That matches my experience with my 2018, but my mileage on longer trips is higher -- 23 all the time, and I have seen 28 with a tailwind. My city and suburban mileage is closer to 19 - 20. Yours may improve some with use. Also I run 89 octane fuel and that helps mpg, if not the budget.

My average on my 2020 for mixed driving is about 21. Last weekend I did a big road trip with almost all highway miles and cruise at about 75 mph and got 25 - 26 mph on regular. I have had as high as 28 for shorter all highway trips. I am actually pretty happy with that considering the V6 and the size/weight of the vehicle. My previous sedan got about 26 mph mixed but required premium which is at least 60 cents to $1 more per gallon. Wife's 4Runner gets maybe 16 or 17 mpg so it could be much worse.

The mileage has improved over the year of ownership by maybe 1 or 2 mpg, but again, I am pretty happy with mpg and that it runs perfectly on regular.

2021, Lexus 350 AWD. 3500 miles on odometer, only 91 octane gas.
City driving, short distances - 17-18mpg.
Had long round robin trim LA-SF, average - 23-23mpg.

PS. My honda civic 1.5T does 40mpg easily on the same route...

Default Real World Mileage

My 2021 RX350 F Sport currently averages about 16pmg city and 23mpg highway. It has about 1,000 miles on the odometer. Anybody else notice significantly lower than advertised fuel economy? This is my 3rd RX and I never experienced this much of a gap before.

3k on the odometer, always in eco mode, going out of my way to “feather” the gas pedal all the time [so that eco sign stays on, even as I accelerate from a full stop], watching the “fuel consumption bar” obsessively

results:

1) running errands in 5 miles radius (grocery, school, restaurants, coffee, park, shopping) - lots of traffic lights, always light traffic, no highway at all = 16-17Mpg

2) short trips around town - 5-10 mins urban driving (intersections, traffic lights) + 15-20mins on highway + 5-10mins urban = 20 Mpg

3) road trips (highway, 70-80 mph, 3ppl in the car, lots of luggage, 95% on cruise control) = 26-27 Mpg

[2021 350 base model, AC is always on]

I've calculated mileage by hand for the last 3,000 miles of my 2020 RX350 base. The vast majority of miles are in standard mode, with occasional sport mode in the mountains. I never use Eco mode. There is a mix of short trips, highway and mountain driving, and I'd call my pedal usage moderate. The average for the 3,000 miles is 23.0 MPG using 87 octane.

During the gas shortage we drove 340 miles to my daughter's graduation. I filled up with med grade BP gas driving between 70-75 in eco mode, and avg 30-35 mpg in my 2020 RX350 with 8500 on the clock. Believe me I drove like grandpa with no aggressive acceleration. This isn't my normal driving style usually I get between 25-28 in normal & sport mode using med grade gas doing 85 or so. This is highway mpg really haven't paid attention to the combined mpg.
