Power Gate Issue
I have a problem with my RX350, 2016 (4th gen) and I cannot find anything on the issue I have. I searched formus, youtube, online and could not find anything. Firstly, the gate started opening just halfway sometimes, sometimes fully. I did not really worry to much about it. But the other day, it got worse. No matter what method I use to try to open it (remote or inside button), it starts opening it, goes for 3 inches, stops beeps twice and that's it. If I click again, it does the same thing, moves 3 inches farther, then stops again. On the third time when I click the button, it just closes it. I thought maybe it's a side sensor detecting an obstacle but not sure. I opened back panel, disconnected both of them, but then just got a one long beep, no movement at all. I figured car recognized they were missing and did not want to move gate not an inch in order to prevent damage or injury. Not sure how to go about this. I also tried to disconnect the battery and do a reset (disable it on the dashboard, pull all the way up then all the way down, enable again), but that did not change anything. Has anybody experienced something similar?
I was in a similar situation a few months ago on my 2017. The rear power struts are failing and need to be replaced to resolve the issue. Parts straight from Lexus seem to be outrageously priced. After some research these seem to be a great alternative on Amazon. I haven’t had any issues after replacement and they seem to be quieter than my squeak prone OEM struts.

If that doesn't work, you might have to have the struts replaced. The best deal would be at a Toyota dealership and it will run about $950 - $1050.

I think you are right. I remember before, when everything worked fine, I could manually open the gate relatively easily. Now, it is a struggle to move it manually at all. That made me think that struts are probably gone. And my were also squeaking crazy before.
I will update the thread once I install them. Hopefully, this will fix the problem.
Thanks!
Check out this thread in this forum and you will see a link on how to reset the liftgate: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...partially.html
