Auto lights and Daytime running light system - how does it work?
I would like to have tail lights always on and position/headlights/high beam headlights to be chosen automatically depending on the conditions. Is it possible? I don't know how to make tail lights to be always on and don't know if AUTO can turn on high bean headlights.
Light selector on OFF will defeat all lights regardless of ambient light
Light selector on AUTO will enable DRL's if the Parking Brake is off, Low Beams and marker lights if dark (customizable threshold available)
Light selector on "marker" icon will enable all the red and yellow corner marker lights regardless of ambient light, will not turn on Low Beams when dark.
Light selector on ON will turn on Low Beams and all marker light regardless of ambient light. Will turn off with a 30 seconds (customizable) delay.
Your RX may have Auto High Beams, look for a roughly "3 cube mounted in front of the inside Rear View Mirror.
If you have AHB and the lights are either ON or Auto in the dark and you are traveling over 15 MPH...the high beams will enable

Great answer mcomer. Thank you.
So there's no way to get marker lights with DLR's and AUTO enabling Low Beams?. Closest I get to my preferred scenario is to go on Auto with maxed Light sensor sensitivity and DLR ON.
I don't have AHB
Yes, you should get your preferred appearance by doing that.
In IL at least the law states that the headlights must be on when the wipers are on.
The spirit of that ordinance is that visibility is reduced and having lights on would help.
Most folks feel that the DRL are sufficient (some LED DRL's are really bright!) but the taillights are not on.
what's a "3 cube mounted in front of the inside rear view mirror"? Just bought a 2010 RX and there's a green LED on the rear view mirror...I'm not sure if this car has the Auto High Beams...also, speaking of DRLs...any experience with LED replacement lamps for them?...that don't flicker when using the lower wattage of the DRL's?...I've had the windshield tinted and at night, the stock High Beams just don't seem to cut it...I've used LED High Beam replacements in my old Hyundai Santa Fe Sport with excellent results, so wondering about using them in my RX without having to buy them and go through trial and error...

thanks so much
I went down that road and let me tell you they all flicker even with the anti flicker decoder/resistor. I've went back to halogens for the DRL/Highbeam.
Thanks for that...you know, I thought so, but it was worth asking...my wife's Sonata uses a similar system with the DLRs also used as High Beams, and after multiple purchases and returns, I came to the same conclusion...my old car - 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, did not have DLRs, but replacing the HBs with LEDs accomplished a HUGE brightness and instant-on difference...
I love the RX, but as I said, with the windshield now tinted it's awesome in daylight, but can be a bit dark at night...the price you pay I suppose...thanks again
Hey Clutchless...TN really didn't know I was having the tint installed...I've seen the installer do it to many other vehicles, so I asked them to do mine...you're right, if they tint just 3" at the top, that's 'legal'...if I were to get stopped for the tint and required to remove it, the installed will remove it, but only refund 60% within the first year ( warranty period)...it's 28% so it's not like limo tint...it matches the rear side and hatch privacy tint very well, so you can still see inside from the outside, but definitely not as clearly as if there were no tint. But as I mentioned the daytime is great - no need to wear sunglasses - but in the dark it's a bit more challenging to see out, although a major plus is no more headlight glare, even from oncoming vehicles with their HBs on...
it does look cool too...but mostly, it saves my AC system from working too hard to cool off the interior...
