Question What month do new models get released ?

I’m really curious to know what month do the newer models come out because, per drivers.lexus.com, my 2015 RX has an order date of 05/2014 and date of first use is June 30th 2014!

Consequently, even though it’s well under 50K miles..it’s now out of basic warranty and I can’t buy an extended plan or CPO it because, per Lexus, that can only be purchased at the time of vehicle purchase!

My experience with my first lexus just keeps getting better (extremely heavy steering, worn rear bushings, **** poor Mark Levinson stereo experience, rattles, squeaks galore.. sigh ) ...

There is no fixed date for introduction of a model, but typically it is in October that the new models hit the show-rooms. There is typically pre-announcements with all the fan fare. At times the new models are even introduced in January.

Back to your question ... CPO is only offered by dealership when they sell the vehicle the second time and not all used vehicles at the dealership qualify to be sold as CPO
Extended warranty is offered to the first purchaser, but it needs to be purchased while the base warranty is in effect. The premium of the extended warranty changes year to year [it is cheaper when you purchase new and if you purchase the extended warranty one year later, the cost will go up]

The warranty has practically nothing to do with the model and date of manufacture. The clock starts from the day/time the vehicle is sold ... it is referenced as date in service.

There are other insurance companies that offer extended warranties. Make sure they are legit before you sign the dotted line.

Another interesting tidbit ... The sales person you had, is supposed to be your contact for all future sales. I would suggest give him/her the call to get the right answer.

PS: From your other post it seems you are not too happy with your Lexus. I would suggest dump it.

Typically new model production starts in August of the previous year, however that is not set in stone at all, often starting earlier or later at new model introductions and mid model updates. For the 2015 model year, production started in March 2014 and ran until September 2015. That said, as was stated, your warranty starts from the date of first use (in-service date).

3RX MY production starts (months are approx.):

2010: Dec. 2008 (20 months)
2011: Aug. 2010 (12 months)
2012: Aug. 2011 (7 months)
2013: Mar. 2012 (17 months)
2014: Aug. 2013 (7 months)
2015: Mar. 2014 (18 months)
End: Sep. 2015

Our 2015 was built 05/14 and we purchased 06/14.
The dealership mailed us nearly every month as the Basic warranty wore down trying to get us to trade.
The mail finally stopped this past June.
If you are not the original owner does Lexus know about you?

I bought a 12 year old Dodge, sent Chrysler an owner card.
Later I got a recall notice for a free dealership fix.

And all of this is typical for any make. It is not unique to Lexus.

Who ever owns the vehicle, the manufacturer has to honor the base warranty. Extended warranty has to have the provision of transferrable [Lexus used to charge $50 to transfer the extended warranty. Check with them now].
CPO is not transferrable [please check with Lexus]
Recalls are done independent of who the owner is and is done even outside of the warranty.
TSBs are only done within the base warranty [and maybe extended warranty]. When not covered under warranty can be performed by customer request and is to be paid for by the customer.

For all of the above, I am sharing my understanding ... please verify with Lexus.

Normally, I see new model launches around late summer.. Seeing next year's model being introduced around May kinda got me stumped is all.

I bought the car used around mid Aug of 2018 ( from Carmax, ~31K miles ) and it was really comfortable and fun to drive (for a crossover). However, as the weather cooled down considerably ( around November ), I started noticing issues like clunking ( turned out to be worn rear bushings ), gear shifter squeak, excessively tight steering etc.. etc..With 6 Lexuses ( 4 sedans, 1 GX and 1 LX, I was the outlier lol ( 2012 M5 ) in the family, I never expected mine to turn out like this..

I'm still perusing Lexus for an extended warranty ( got some insight from my local Lexus dealer ), and hopefully I'll succeed in this endeavor! (~40K on the car now)

If I'm unable to have these issues resolved (at a reasonable cost, in lieu of an extended warranty), that just might be on the plate..
