skips the only thing the original thread poster has a question about. Otherwise, I agree.

feel free to add the video to the DIY brakes thread that's been in the stickys for years. It's a nicer one than the one that there right now.

Default Caliper Bracket Boot Removal

[QUOTE=Fpan87;10194136]

I'm trying to remove the caliper guide pin to clean the inside bore and rubber boots. I always thought the rubber boot was just pull and tug but upon further inspection it looks like it is stuck to the inside of the chamber. I tried tugging a little but it didn't want to come out. It feels like if I tug any harder, it will rip. Anybody have any ideas on how to remove that rubber boot?

Thanks.

Were you able remove the boots? I've tugged on a boot at an angle but fear it will tear. Did you remove them by pulling hard or using a screwdriver to wedge it out or hammer the screwdriver into the base of the boot? Thank you for any help.

You will have to just pull the slide pin boot out, however before you do that make your sure you have a replacement boot as it seem that old boot is stuck due to corrosion and may rip when you remove it.

Or just remove the slide pin and leave the boot alone if it is intact. You can wiggle the pin out of the boot. Hold onto the boot while wiggling and pulling on the slide pin. However, sometimes, if neglected, they can be stuck inside the caliper. Then you may have to try and pull it out or replace the caliper...

Then clean the pin and the hole in the caliper. A 9mm or .38 caliber gun bore bristle brush cleaner works very well cleaning out the caliper hole. Spray a bit of brake cleaner on it first. Make sure its dry before inserting the cleaned and greased caliper pin. I like to grease them with Ford - Motorcraft Genuine Fluid XG-3-A Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound - 3 oz. or Sil-Glyde.
