So I was trying to remove my slide pin from my rear caliper and it was on so tight that i broke the bolt where its threaded.
I have that thing called a frogger that removes stripped screws, but I dont think that will be no where near enough to remove it. Im soaking it in WD40 right now as I think of what to do next. possibly just drill it out? but I dont want to damage the threads.
If you have a drill, you can buy an extracter kit from a place like Harbor Freight...then you drill into the broken bolt with a smaller diameter bit, then drill the extracter bit into the hole, reverse power and pull the broken part out.
Drill it out, or if that doesn't work, and you have a welder lying around (which I'm sure you don't) tack the nut back onto the bolt and try loosening it again. This is one big PITA, hate when bolts shear like that. Good luck !
That looks like the caliper bracket, not the caliper itself. I had this happen to the right rear of mine and had to get a new caliper from Lexus (came with the bracket). You can try a screw extractor first, but not sure if you will have any luck. Mine was simply seized, not broken, and not even using a torch worked on getting it out. Sucks, I know.
I got the broken bolt out, got a replacement slide pin from Lexus for $10 and works perfect. MUCH MUCH cheaper than a new caliper and once the broken bolt was out, replacing the other rear slide pin came out easy and finished both sides in under 15mins.
anti-seized work way better than wd-40d. Your best bet is drill a small hold on broken bolt head. attach a smaller bolt or screw into that hold, put on some anti-seized and wait for 2-3 minutes. it should be remove with no problem when you keep turning the screw or bolt that attached to broken bolt head.
This is what you need OP.. they differ in some sets but the best way is to drill a smaller hole then the bolt.. tap a left handed thread into the hole and thread a left handed bolt (usually the kit comes with all of this) into the bolt.. it being a left handed thread will loosen the broken bolt.. this task would also become a lot easier if you apply heat to it as well..
