the back passenger door on our rx350 was run into and a good amount of damage occurred. Now the car wont start and a message appears saying " steering lock activated". Can we deactivate it so the car can be driven to a garage for repair. The garage is approx 30 miles from where the car is now
Sorry to hear about the accident, and I hope the damage is just to the door.
I would second what Clutchless already stated ... talk to the insurance and they will roll it all into property damage under collision.
If you are desperate, try the following [based on unconfirmed by talked about tings on CL]
1. Remove all other remotes/key-fobs from the vehicle.
2. Bring the original Key-FOB near the start button and then try to start by pressing the start button.
Hopefully RX would start, but before you drive off, crawl under make sure all suspension looks ok.
[When I got hit, my rear left was being held in place by the strut at the top].
I would not try driving it. The air bags may pop unexpectedly?? Or something got damaged under the car suspension?
If you crash again, it will be your fault.
Not worth the risk. Call a tow truck.
