Convert Non-Navigation to OEM Nav 2012 RX
Convert Non-Navigation to OEM Nav 2012 RX
I have a 2012 Non-navigation system RX350. Bought it from an auction. Great car BUT the back up camera is annoying. It’s in the rear view mirror. It’s tiny. Plus the obvious, no navigation. If I was to buy the head unit , and center “mouse” control of one with the navigation option and install it , would it work ? Has anyone tried this before ? I would buy it off eBay or a salvage yard. I just do not like the back up camera in the mirror

This linked thread that covers your question is actually listed 2 threads below your inquiry on the main page.https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...rmarket-2.html

FYI the OEM NAV is terrible and out of date. Plus updates have to be done by the dealer for several hundred dollars.
And all the HVAC controls run through the system so you cannot just swap out stuff. The above link explains everything. Read it from the beginning to the end.

Just use your phone for Navigation.

^^ What he said. All automotive NAV systems are essentially obsolete less than a year after the vehicle is driven off the sales lot. I am glad that of our four vehicles, only one has a factory NAV system (which we never bother to use).

I have a 2011 RX450h with navigation and instead of updating MAPS I would want to use the smartphone GPS. I might be the only one here who hates dangling cords to charge and connect a mobile phone for the audio, so I want to know if any of the current (2021) iPhone/Android dongles can be plugged in and used through the USB AUX port to display a map app on the stock center console display without having to dig out the head unit and hardwire the dongle? There are some dongles on ebay that are supposedly compatible with the RX450h. I'd appreciate it if there is anyone here in this forum who knows if it does or doesnt work

It is just not the cables [or wireless/bluetooth] .. I think you are looking for something like "CarPlay" [there is an equivalent for Android], not available for 2011 Lexus RX. That unit is too old in this world of rapid changes. Take some solace in the thought that the latest 2022 models would not interface well with 2030 personal devices.

thanks Salim . Yes, tech moves very fast but all for the better... I did find some youtube videos showing VLINE has an apple carplay system for the 2011 RX450h, and appears to work well with the existing display, but it still needs a hardwired connection to the head unit.

Their website confirms compatibility, but at $660 it is a very pricey option compared to a cable connected iphone that I already have...
