Windshield wipers stop working
In typical Icelandic rain my windshield wipers stopped working. Opened the suspension left cover and found out that the connecting arm was disconnected with the rotateing ball link. The nylon was worn out. New assembly cost 300USD. My question, anyone with same problem? Does Lexus know about this problem? Les than 50,000 miles on the vehicle.
thanks
Bjorgi

Welcome to CL. Lots of new folks with repair questions this week. I have not heard of it around here, but you could try a search. What is the piece of wood doing in there?
Does it rain and snow often in Iceland? How often do you need to use your wipers in Iceland? How often are they used to help clear ice from the windshield, as that would put extra strain on the assembly. Maybe they just wore out from a lot of use in cold weather. Or maybe there was a defective bushing or ball link. Keep in mind that anything can break on any car at any time. Even a Lexus. At least $300 is not too steep a repair bill.

Wipers
Hi and thanks for the reply. The pice of wood you can see in the photo is my savior. I stopped on the side of the road when my wipers stopped working and opened the hood. Then I pulled out the lid over the suspension and saw the problem. Fortunately there was a fence there so I could use 12mm block to support the ball link on the motor plate. If not, me, my wife and our grandchildren would had to get help and leave the vehicle. As a Lexus owner, you must understand, not an option.
I bought the vehicle in late March and has been working a lot on it since. All 4 brakes rotors (drums) and pads, front calipers pistons and shock absorbers on the passenger side. Never seen anything like this before on a car only driving 45.000 miles. Very bad maintenance from the dealer her in my country. Only change you 1.500USD and that's it.
It's more likely that previous owner had broken the wipers assembly in heavy snowfall and the mechanics had only pulled it together and prayed for the best.
The car is magnificent although and in very good shape. This is my second Lexus, IS200 also in my driveway.
I'm a drag racer and do all my maintenance in my partners shop.
