Check it from the inside lock button. If the door will lock I'd believe the lock solenoid is working & you have a problem with the exterior switch.
If the door will not lock I'd believe you have an issue with the lock solenoid or the harness leading to it.
Not sure how handy you are but getting the interior door panel off is not a big job with a little patience.

when I approach the passanger door the light below the mirror turns on , that doesn't happend on the driver side .
is there a sensor that detects tha key fob for each door? Or what else do you think may be the issue

Don't know the system very well but elimination of other issues can go a long way to narrowing down the source of your problem.
I expect the key fob sensing unit would send a signal to the exterior lock pad. You close the signal with another conductor, possibly a ground, to engage the lock solenoid.
If it were mine I would pull the door panel to check for a loose/corroded connection at the door handle.

this tells me it's an issue with the sensor on the car. According to my manual, there are several sensors for various zones around the car. I bet the driver's door one has gone bad.

It could be that this function (which in your case is disabled) is set at the Lexus settings. Did you purchase this car brand new?
Speculation is that the previous owner does not want the DR side door to open when the owner approaches the car. It must be a personal security preference.
