Default 35000 mile service

Hi All. So wife's 2011 CPO RX350 is due for 35,000 mi service coming up. I called one dealer near work and he insisted that we get oil change done even though we just had the 30,000 mi service using synthetic oil ( not to mention Lexus maintenance recommendation ). He wouldn't even quote me the maintenance fee without the oil change which I found quite odd ( $200 for 35000 mi including oil change ). Any thoughts on these guys?

I called the other dealer that we normally use and they charge $122 which does not include oil change and they said every 10,000 for oil change is fine.

What are you folks doing about these 5000 mile maintenance without oil change? Are you taking it in ( basically rotation and fluid top off ) or do you just go in for 10000 mile services with oil change.

Thanks for your help!

I've been taking mine to an STS shop local to me. No stubbornness whatsoever.

Unless you fall under the special operating conditions, the 35k besides rotating the tires, really just seems to be a visual inspection/adjust as needed service. IDK how this is $122? STS charged me $16 to rotate the tires (includes a visual) and zero $ to check the fluids.

No need for the dealer to do this service unless you like to spend excessive amounts of money while you eat their donuts in the lounge. Any reputable local shop can rotate your tires and check fluids for a lot less money.

Check with a Toyota dealer. I think our 15,000 mile service was $30.00. We recently had the 20,000 mile service done at the local Toyota dealer for about $85 and they have coffee and donuts. :-)

I just had 25,000 mile service (Same interval as 35,000) at Lexus dealer in North Tucson, AZ. for $33.24. Usual tire rotation, inspections, washer fluid, questions answered, coffee/snacks and car wash. Glad we hit the mileage now, as we are visiting the area, and on our way to California. California dealers great on car pricing, but some not so good on maintenance pricing, especially the dealer by your work. Might want to call back, only a supervisor this time, and ask why they insisted you have an oil change at 35,000 miles when you already had your required synthetic oil change and service at 30,000.

I personally prefer having service at the dealer, as I usually have a few questions, including with the technology specialist. Also, I like the entertainment value of looking at all the new cars. And yes the coffee bar and snacks. We travel, so have had service at several different dealers, all in states with reasonable pricing. Guess if price was excessive, I would go to the Toyota dealers, as I would feel better about them doing the inspection part of the service, compared to an oddball auto or tire shop.

Wouldn't skip the odd number services, as inspections are very important. Also, the tire rotation.

Every 10,000 miles ask for an oil change and tire rotation at the Lexus dealership if so inclined. This should be less than $100. Every 30,000 miles the brake fluid needs to be changed and again about $100. Every 20,000 miles change the air and cabin filters. This combined takes five minutes and the air filter can be bought on line at Lexus Parts World for $18. The cabin air filter can be bought at Walmart for $18, It is the Fram Fresh Breeze #10285 with carbon and baking soda to filter the air. Wiper blade inserts again can be bought at Lexus Parts World for $20 for both refills and takes five minutes to replace. You are done until 100,000 miles. At Lexus Parts World use cl5 in the promo code for 10% discount. If you go in an ask for the 10,000, 20,000 30,000 maintenance you will be paying big bucks for a lot more items you do not need checked and inspected. Once a year replace the key fob battery cr2032. Keep receipts for everything. I take my oil filter bought at Lexus Parts World and 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 purchased at Walmart for $24 to my local Toyota dealer and they charge me $15 labor.

We have a few threads talking about going to Toyota for service. I use them for parts myself (cabin filter and wiper blade refills). The point is you have options rxcabby. If the dealer near isn't willing to follow the Lexus recommended service guidelines for some reason (and assuming you're not driving excessive miles), then you're better off going elsewhere. Prices vary from dealer to dealer. It pays to shop around. Good luck finding a place to get your RX serviced whether that's Lexus or Toyota.

Our Lexus dealer follows the 10K miles for oil change and the check over and tire rotation at the 5K miles. I was concerned at first to go 10K miles. The dealer technician I talked to reassured me the interval is fine for the Lexus engine.
