I keep mine at least 10 feet or more apart as a general rule.
Excellent observation. Constantly talking to each other probably leads to heated arguments and upset, thereby causing energy drain, much the same as with relationships. I'm just sayin'. This has been a joke, made up by yours truly.

Just a note about alkaline batteries. They don't die gradually like the old-style. They maintain their voltage until they reach end-of-life, then the voltage falls off rapidly. This is why some batteries will be good enough one day, then not good enough the next, and so on. Our fobs lasted three years then died suddenly. Hope this helps in this application as well as others.

This is good to know - thanks! I shall keep mine separated from now on

I got the "change your battery" warning and did so. No more alert. Then two days later I get the alert again. Then no alert for a week. Then alert again. Then nothing.

I finally realized I was getting the alert whenever my wife was with me... with HER fob in her purse. Changed the battery in that... and no more alerts!

Be certain you are not leaving the fob(s) in the car while parked, even in your locked garage.
Not sure if the fobs "talk" to each other but the fob battery life is definitely shortened when they
are within three (3) feet of the car.

What type of battery is required for the key fob? Is it a CR 1632 or a CR 2032? My key is currently with a garage and I can't check.

Different fobs have different batteries, crack one open to see.
