Default 2010 Used RX350

Hi,

I've been reading this forum regarding steering column issues so I have a couple of questions hopefully someone can help me with it. The 2010 RX has 57k miles on it.

1) Is steering part of the powertrain and covered by the 72month 70k mile warranty? Or is it covered by the basic warranty?

2) It seems the steering problem are models with vin#s starting with J's, meaning they were imported from Japan. How accurate is that?

3) Fully loaded with nav for $26k is that a fair price with 57k miles on it? Asking price was $27,750

Thanks

Your out by mileage. If this is a certified pre own then it will be covered. There is a tsib for column rattle for 10-11 year models. Hope this helps.

First of all, what type of steering wheel issue are you talking about. There are several descriptions that I've heard. My 2010 (20,000 miles) makes a slight groaning sound when turning the wheel at slow speeds. To answer your questions:

1. The steering wheel is NOT part of the drive train.
2. My 2010 was made in Canada and has the groaning sound.
3. Have you checked KBB, Edmunds and local ads to compare prices? A fair price is one that is competitive in
your area of the country and one you're comfortable paying. Fully loaded is not descriptive enough. You
need to know which packages the car has (e.g. Luxury package, comfort package, etc...)

FWIW, our 2010 was made in Japan, has 58,000 miles on it, and has NO "steering column issue." It runs well, gets good gas mileage, has no squeaks or rattles, and rides a bit like a truck, cuz that's what it is in my book. We're happy with it.

My CPO 2010 RX 350 has a vin# that starts w/2T, just took it in for a rattle in steering column, they ended up changing the whole column and it took 1 month. Covered by the CPO warranty. If no warranty it would have cost around $3200.
Good luck.

1 month? Did the tech build the column himself?

Maybe the tech had to send the old one in before Lexus would ship the new one.

We have an '11 CPO and the steering wheel has a slight feeling in the fingers like the bearings are dimpled. Hard to describe the sensation, but I also think the steering is stiff. I will check at the dealer before warranty is out.

I reported it to the selling dealer soon after purchase and they said everything was OK with the steering wheel. They said that about all my concerns. We've had the '11 CPO for 11 months with no problems.

No issues with our 2010 either, we bought it pre-owned certified but not by Lexus. However the certification program it was under was very extensive much like Lexus. Struts were even replaced before delivery.
No squeaks, rattles, or steering issues.
