I am looking into installing a remote starter by a lexus dealer for a 2013 RX350 and was wondering if anyone had one installed on their lexus by a dealer. I found some old threads from 2011 with negative reviews regarding short distance range as well as the car shutting off when doors are unlocked, and wanted to know if the starters improved in 2013. I have two choices, a basic remote starter for $500+ or the RES+ for $800+. Any thoughts and reviews would be very much appreciated.
Go aftermarket. DEI products (Viper, Python, Clifford, etc) are highly regarded.
You'll get a much longer range and lifetime warranty.
You still will have to live with engine shutdowns when the door is open.
And it will possibly be a separate remote for remote start, but it can be a tiny one with some Viper models.
Basic Viper remote start device can be added/installed for under $300.
I wouldn't waste money on the OEM one. You can buy the plug-in-play* module for about $230.
* may need key code programming.
I have been always wondering about the aftermarket implementation. Those that have it, does your vehicle also shut down when you open any doors? And does the smart key still work to open doors?
I went with http://www.compustar.com and added the Drone Mobile module/app to start and track car from ANYWHERE...dealer installed at time of vehicle purchase...I currently use three of them all controllable from any iphone

Nanook, how does the aftermarket remote starter work?
When you start the car, is the smart key still operational, in particular to relation to unlocking? When you open the door, does the car keep running? Once in the car, how do you disengage the remote start and put the car into a normal running mode?
