Default rear struts issue

Hi everybody! I have a RX350 2010 and i just bought a pair of rear struts after my mechanic told me that they were leaking, i bought two on amazon, KYBs... and checked evything good: FWD, without air suspensión and without sport package. and they were totally different...

the kybs that i bought are very similar like the front ones and rear ones looks like this

I think the first batch of the thirth generation came with those then changed to the bigger ones to add more softoness to the ride. my question is... can i put the new ones to my new car? of course adding the strut mounts and replacing other parts

Front end has a strut & coil spring unit. Can be separated but coil spring needs to be compressed. This is not a job to do without the right tools & know-how. The coil spring can come off the strut like a missile if not done right.

The rear set-up is more conventional/old style. Separate coil spring & shock absorber. Changing rear shocks is an easy job with the right tools. The image you posted is a shock absorber.

Go to RockAuto.com

Pictures of the rear struts are located there.

Suggest you bookmark the site for ANY parts you need in the future.

All third gen rx have rear shocks. They are relatively cheap and in stock at your local dealer for around $80 a shock.

Correct! If your 3rd generation Rx is a 2011 or newer. In 2010, the rear has a strut assembly. I find this to be weird, and I am curious what changes happened between 2010 and 2011?

I used KYB part lookup to find my information. http://www.kyb.com/ So, I think??? the OP ordered the wrong part by mistake. He ordered a shock, not a strut, if I read him correctly. And I don't think it will "fit" if that is the case.

I have a '10 with a Japan built VIN sitting here in the garage. When I need rear suspension components I'll be buying new shocks, not struts.
Believe this holds true for the 3rd gen RX from '10-'14.

My 2010 built in Canada has rear shocks per visual inspection. I looked up the parts on Sewell and they indicate shocks. Also you can get the sport suspension shocks which are a little stiffer.

Default KYB catalogue lists the wrong part number for 2010

Okay, so I believe the confusion is a result of the KYB catalogue listing the wrong part number for the 2010 rear shock/strut.

As indicated by earlier post, Sewell has the correct part number listed with diagrams. KYB has the wrong part number listed on their website and on Rockauto for the 2010 year. Maybe some 2010s have the older style MacPherson strut (vs the newest 3rd gen double wishbone suspension with shocks), but a change to the suspension midyear is unlikely, right?

Has anyone successfully updated their ride with the KYB shock for 2010-2014 model Rx350? Does it ride better than original stock shocks?

Read posts # 2 & # 4 again.
Rockauto, KYB & a dozen other vendors out there are using the manufacturer supplied images of the products.
Image is incorrect but their numbers lead them to send you a correct shock absorber.
Most buy from the same manufacturer, the rest is packaging & marketing.
