Default 2014 RX350 Navigation Update Question

How do you get Navigation System to recognize an Oct/Nov 2011 Interstate interchange left exit changed to a "right" exit only unless it strictly HOV (I-66 West when traveling I-495 Northbound from I-395 in northern Virginia) .

If the road has changed since the version of your nav was created, then you need to 'pay' for an update if one is available. The Nav system maps can't 'see' the road changes. They can only see where your car is on a mapping system previously created. The time period you spoke of is quite awhile back, when was your nav system created?

Mine is still from a 2010 update and frequently shows me traveling across terrain instead of roads that have been added since then .

Yes, it is fun to go over a new bridge and the GPS think you are in the water. :=)

Not sure, just purchased vehicle new in Apr 2014. I'll have to check the manuals to see how I find out when mine was created.

From the "Menu, Info/Apps, & Map Data" it says "Map Version date is 2013-06-01"

The Navigation system will not always be accurate. You need to be aware of this fact as you are using the system and only use it for assistance. For example, I always confirm that I am not turning onto a one way street in San Francisco going in the wrong direction regardless of what the Nav system is recommending. If I am in an area where I know there have been changes in recent years, I use the Google Navigation function on my Android phone; it seems to be much more current. For example, it reflected the changes to exits during the construction work surrounding the new Bay Bridge construction in San Francisco ... while the Lexus system was outdated.

I might be wrong about this, but I think on the Lexus Navigation site you can check specific streets before you upgrade. So for example, you can see if a new street exists in the database now. At any rate, there can be a long delay between when something changes and it shows up in the Lexus Nav system. The Nav system has generally done a good job for me ... and has handled some tricky directions well. But, it has made a few pretty bad errors also. If I didn't have own the Lexus Nav, I would be fine with my Google Navigation.

I will ad my 2c. As it was said before, for a company like Lexus - the Nav system, layout, design and speed for 2014-2015 is very disappointing. Things change so much annually at this tech speed that waiting 6-7 years for a cycle to finish in order to upgrade the NAV etc is unacceptable. Simply put.

There is no excuse to not have Denso build a unit that will handle future upgrades to the UI/System and firmware itself. If they can't, find someone who can.

I have to think that cars and phones will be much more integrated in the future and a lot of this will get passed off to the phone. There are featured of the Lexus Enform program I like (Destination Assist) that I'd like to see remain or a phone based concierge service become available.

No you can't. The USB key is just a software key. It doesn't contain the map data. It has to be done at a dealership using the Techstream laptop.

Denso doesn't build these - they are Pioneer units. Must be old stock leftovers.
As I have been saying about Lexus Nav - you get 90s tech at 90s prices.

They are not also easily upgradeable. Must buy a USB key and pay labor to update the data.
My RX was out for a total of 3 days getting its maps updated.
