Blind Spot Monitor

I just like cool features like BSM, which is not present on my vehicle. Does anyone know if it is possible to just replace non BSM mirrors with BSM and it just automagically works? Or is there additional ECUs involved, so not just a simple swap out the mirrors, but something more involved?

I have been slowly going thru all the previous posts on this forum, but haven't come across your thread. Thanks for sharing.
Sounds like the BSM on the 3rd Gen RX is a bit gimmicky than truly of value. A bit like the HUD. OK, scrapping it off my list of possible modifications. You've saved me some $$$ and disappointment.

Ok I'm sure I will be flamed for this one.
I have never had BSM on my car nor driven one with it. But I hate it. BSM and emergency braking systems all use K-band radar. which is constantly setting off my radar detector. The Audis are the worst. Its not like you pass a door opener for a brief false alarm. you can be in traffic and follow someone for miles.
Admittedly my V1 is 26 years old. The newer one have better rejection filters but are still "chatty"

Now to keep this reply on topic - I'd never had BSM until I got my used RX last year. I didn't trust it so got the little 2" spot mirrors like I've used on every car for many years. After a year, I've grown to be more trusting of the BSM but I still prefer the mirror since I can actually see the car in the blind spot. I've become so dependant on them that we even put them on rental cars.

I have a Cobra brand radar *** laser detector. As far as I know, passing cars, that are showing lit up BSM indicators in their mirrors when they pass me because they have detected my car, have not set off my radar detector. I live in a very crowded urban area where the freeways are always packed during my commute to and from work. If BSM were truly capable of setting off my radar detector, it would have been going off continuously since many cars have BSM these days, This is certainly not the case. Having said that, I will pay closer attention now to see if there is a correlation with any specific car brand, that is passing me, the next time an alert triggers.

They can be upgraded. Mine was about 11 years old and I sent it in a while back. It was at a point where the upgrade was really just a replacement. The newer version is definitely easier to live with out of the box but using it with a V1CLE, custom programming & V1 Driver (I'm on IOS but there are solutions for Android as well) makes it even better in the city.
As for BSM, I adjust my mirrors properly and always head check. I didn't think I'd care for BSM prior to getting our 2015 RX 450h but it doesn't hurt to have it and I've found that I like having it as a backup.

Switch – 84470-48010
Driver’s Bracket – 88171-48010
Passenger’s Bracket – 88161-48010
Driver’s Module – 88162-0W050 (Part Code: 88172)
Passenger’s Module – 88162-0W050 (Part Code: 88162)
Mirrors that have BSM incorporated, both sides.
I bought the switch off of ebay, and I do have a wiring plug for it behind the blank bezel. I think I saw the plug in pigtails for the two sensors on each of the two corners (inside of rear bumper).
Just haven't found the other parts cheap enough to try out. I'll keep looking the the modules look to be pretty expensive.

I like this best. In addition to BSM, RCTA, parking sensors, and backup cameras I still look over my shoulder and scan my surroundings the old-fashioned way. I have great respect for my Dad but found it amusing when I heard he was demonstrating the backup camera to my Mom and proceeded to hit another car with the corner bumper because he relied on the screen too much instead of properly checking for obstacles.
